The Alaska Court System (ACS) seeks a motivated and organized individual to serve as the Clerk of Court III in the Nome Trial Courts. This position serves as Clerk of Court of the combined district and superior courts. The successful applicant will be responsible for the daily operations of all trial court activities including management of records, personnel, fiscal matters, and facilities. In addition, the Clerk of Court is the primary trainer for the deputy clerks. The successful candidate can expect to perform the following:

TRIAL COURT MANAGEMENT AND SUPPORT

Supervise trial court activities; provide leadership, management, and technical support in a variety of trial court functions including record keeping, calendaring, accounting, and jury management as prescribed by statute, state and local directives;

Plan, coordinate, and schedule the work of staff to ensure adequate coverage of court functions; review and approve leave requests; disseminate procedural information in a timely and appropriate manner;

Ensure relevant laws, bulletins, policies, court rules, and statutory clerk of court activities are adhered to in the filing, processing, review, and control of pleadings and other documents and materials;

Oversee calendaring, in-courting, accounting, and jury management functions; oversee maintenance and control of exhibits and preparation of records on appeal;

Answer inquiries from judges, attorneys, other courts, law enforcement, and the general public concerning court cases and policies; assure staff compliance with ACS customer service standards;

Monitor the quality of staff work product and provide correction and training as necessary; run audit and case management reports to ensure accuracy of case management data;

Oversee courtroom audio recording back-up server monitoring; notify IS of any problems;

Participate in budgetary process for positions and equipment; work closely with the Area Court Administrator, Rural Court Training Assistant, and judicial officers to implement operational procedures in response to new legal requirements and technology; participate in statewide and district clerk's conferences.

HUMAN RESOURCE MANAGEMENT

Interview, hire, evaluate, and discipline subordinate employees; maintain supervisory working files as a means of documenting both positive and negative performance;

Prepare timely performance evaluations and maintain current job descriptions;

Ensure staff are informed regarding personnel rules and administrative bulletins;

Initiate and lead regular staff meetings on training issues and matters related to court operations; ensure deputy clerks receive training in all aspects of their jobs either by providing training or by seeking training assistance and resources needed.

BOOKKEEPING, FACILITIES, AND MATERIALS MANAGEMENT

Maintain trial court accounting records and petty cash fund; ensure timely deposit and disbursement of trust account funds;

Ensure trial court facilities are functioning, orderly, and secure; test alarm system on a monthly basis; act as property custodian for the court;

Oversee ordering of supplies and forms; work closely with IS staff on technology-related matters; participate in budgetary process for equipment and upgrades to facilities.
