The Alaska Court System (ACS) seeks an organized and motivated individual to become the next Clerk of Court at the Barrow Trial Courts. A Clerk of Court is responsible for all daily trial ! court operations including management of records, personnel, fiscal matters, and facilities. They manage clerical operations and plan, implement, direct, and monitor all non-judicial activities at the court location. The beginning salary may be set at an advanced step based on the overall experience and qualifications of the selected applicant.

TRIAL COURT MANAGEMENT AND SUPPORT

Su! pervise trial court activities; provide leadership, management! , and technical support in a variety of functions to include record keeping, calendaring, accounting, and jury management;

Plan, coordinate, and schedule the work of staff to ensure adequate coverage of court functions;

Disseminate procedural information in a timely and appropriate manner;

Oversee calendaring, in-courting, accounting and jury management;

Answer inquiries from judges, attorneys, law enforcement, and the general public concerning court cases, general policies, and/or court procedures;

Work with Area Court Administrator, Rural Court Training Assistant, and judicial officers to implement new operational procedures in response to legal requirements and technology.

HUMAN RESOURCE MANAGEMENT

Interview prospective employees; hire, evaluate and discipline staff as required; schedule, assign, and determine priorities in work duties;

Orient and train personnel in the application of court policies,! rules, statutes, and departmental procedures;

Monitor the work of subordinates; prepare and discuss performance evaluations.

BOOKKEEPING, FACILITIES, AND MATERIALS MANAGEMENT

Maintain trial court accounting records and petty cash fund; ensure timely disbursement of trust account funds;

With assistance from Information Services in Anchorage, oversee equipment operations to include troubleshooting, repairs, and upgrades;

Ensure that trial court facilities are functioning, orderly, and secure.

Beginning salary may be set at an advanced step based on the overall experience and qualifications of the selected applicant.

The Clerk of Court position is flexibly-staffed to range 16 when the incumbent meets requirements and is appointed Deputy Magistrate in accordance with Administrative Rule 19.2 ($6,278.00 monthly).

In addition, a moving allowance is available if the selected applicant is required to move to B! arrow.

Minimum Qualifications:
A high school diploma or General Educational Development (GED) certificate AND two years of advanced ! general clerical or legal clerical work experience AND the ability to type at least 40 words per minute. The required work experience is met by service such as a Deputy Clerk II, Deputy Clerk III, Legal Technician, Court Supervisor, Clerk of Court, Judicial Assistant, or Chief Deputy Clerk with the Alaska Court System or similar work experience with another employer.

OR

A bachelor’s degree from an accredited college in any field AND one year of advanced general clerical or legal clerical work experience AND the ability to type at least 40 words per minute. The required work experience is met by service such as a Deputy Clerk II, Deputy Clerk III, Legal Technician, Court Supervisor, Clerk of Court, Judicial Assistant, or Chief Deputy Clerk with the Alaska Court System or similar work experience with another employer.

OR

A bachelor’s degree from an accredited college in business administration, public administration, criminal justice, o! r a closely related field AND the ability to type at least 40 words per! minute.
