is recruiting for a Social Services Associate I/II position located
in our Fairbanks Child! ren's Services office.

The responsibility of this position is to provide clerical and social service support to the protective services specialist staff.

Typical duties include the following:
Sight and sound supervision of children in state custody who are visiting with their parents, extended family members and siblings at the request of the assigned protective services specialist worker and/or supervisor.
Transportation for child clients to and from supervised visits, foster homes, medical and dental appointments, counseling appointments, meetings and other places as requested.
Social service support by delivering documents to court and/or Attorney General's office, filing documents in court, organizing case files, filling out applications for services, attending specific case staffing and requesting ASPIN reports on clients.
Coordination between foster families, caseworker, parents and children to develop visitation plans between ! children and siblings, and children and parents.
Social se! rvice support by receiving referrals of suspected child abuse and neglect.
Document all contacts with children and families in the OCS child protection information database (ORCA).

Assist and/or accompany professional level staff in the field with interviews, home visits, transportation and placement of children with foster or relative homes.

Attend Team Decision Making (TDM) meetings as necessary.

For positions in this job class, a child protective history check will be performed per AS 12.62.160 and/o! r 13 AAC 68.315.

All positions in this job class require a valid Alaska driver's license or able to obtain one within thirty days (30) of hire and successful completion of a background investigation, including fingerprinting and a criminal records check.

Minimum Qualifications:
Social Services Associate I :
High school diploma or the equivalent and one year of experience providing assistance, information or referrals to the public

Substitution: Post-secondary education from an accredited institution may substitute for the required experience on the basis that three semester or four quarter hours equals one month of experience.

Special Note:
Some positions require a valid Alaska driver’s license, a background check and fingerprinting. These requirements will be indicated at the time of recruitment.

The qualifying public contact experience may be gained in any occupational field and at any ! level within the occupation.

“Equivalent” includes a G.E.D! ., or completion of any basic adult education course of 480 class hours (16 weeks at 30 hours per week), or six months of work experience performing duties related to the job class, or twelve months of work experience involving some routine tasks related to the job in question, or highest grade of school completed plus amount of work experience which totals 12 years.

Social Services Associate II :
High School diploma or the equivalent; and one year of paraprofessional experience (any level) providing assistance, information or referrals to the public related to social services, health care or legal services.

Substitution: Post-secondary education from an accredited institution in the social, behavior or health sciences, law or a closely related field may substitute for the required experience on the basis that three semester/four quarter hours equals one month of experience.

CLASSIFICATION
This Positio! n Description is currently being reviewed by the Division of Personnel ! & Labor Relations, Classification Section. Depending on the outcome of the allocation, this recruitment pool may or may not be utilized to fill this vacancy.
FLEXIBLY STAFFED
This position is flexibly staffed. This vacancy may be filled at either the I or II level, depending on the applicant's training and/or experience. The full range of salaries is listed above. Starting salary will be determined by the level at which the position is hired. If filled at Level I, promotion to the Level II will occur upon successful completion of the probationary period and required training, as well as the applicant meeting the minimum qualifications of the higher job class and final approval by the Supervisor.
