The Alaska Court System (ACS) seeks a Deputy Clerk II to support operations in the Civil Division of the Anchorage Trial Courts. Under general supervision, the incumbent will serve as a case manager responsible for file maintenance and processing of Civil / Domestic / Appeals caseload. Responsibilities will include:
Receive all new filings for civil, domestic, small claims, and appeals and enter appropriate docket screen in the case management system; match filings with correct case file and evaluate documents to determine what action is required; determine priorities and take appropriate action;
Receive case files as they return from other offices; review new paperwork and orders to determine what action is necessary, then take appropriate action or route accordingly; maintain the appearance of case files by tying documents and preparing new volumes;
Respond effectively to telephone and personal inquiries concerning general information and procedures as well as questions related to specific civil, domestic, or appeals files;
Identify and process various types of documents and orders such as orders for consolidation, confidentiality or stay, orders vacating previous orders, judgments or unsigned orders;
Close case files when appropriate and make necessary computer entry;
Complete preparation, issuance, and/or distribution of notices of dismissal, orders, entries of default, judgments, notices to absent defendant, supplemental summons, writs of assistance, orders to show cause, and civil bench warrants;
Review unsigned orders to determine if the issue is resolved; review Notices of Change of Judge for timeliness, sign the order when appropriate, distribute the notice and complete necessary computer entry.

Minimum Qualifications:
Graduation from high school or completion of a General Education Development (GED) certificate AND one year of office clerical experience AND the ability to type at least 40 words per minute.
Substitution:
Additional office clerical work experience will substitute for the high school diploma or GED certificate on a month-for-month basis.
Completion of 36 semester credit hours or 48 quarter credit hours of coursework from an accredited college will substitute for the year of required office clerical experience.
Completion of an appropriate vocational training course of study such as legal secretary, paralegal, or office skills will substitute for the required office clerical experience on a month-for-month basis.
