Custody Investigator II located in Fairbanks.
In the best interests of children involved in di! vorce, dissolution, domestic violence, juvenile marriages, and emancipation, the Custody Investigator II provides the Superior Court of the Fourth Judicial District with a program of investigation, counseling, negotiation, evaluation, and recommendation to minimize the use of courtroom time in adversary action.
This position works under the general supervision of the Area Court Administrator (ACA). Regular job duties include:
Conduct custody investigations as ordered by the Superior Court, including interviews with parents and children, medical personnel, police agencies, social service agencies, school personnel, day care providers, and other witnesses;
Conduct early neutral evaluations with attorneys; present preliminary report of findings and recommendations prior to court date;
Act as arbitrator to achieve stipulated agreements out of court; when applicable, place agreements on the record;
Prepare and submit confidential custody and visitat! ion reports to the Superior Court; prepare other correspondenc! e relative to each case; keep case management and statistical records of case activity;
Supervise one Assistant Custody Investigator and one Administrative Assistant, including the Administrative Assistant's scheduling and processing of orders for mediation cases through the Anchorage Child Custody and Visitation Mediation Program, and working with other department supervisors;
Provide workshop for parents on helping children through divorce in order to reduce caseload volume and number of custody trials;
Testify as a court expert witness in those cases where a stipulated agreement cannot be reached and recommendation made to court is challenged by either party; have status of expert witness in area of custody disputes and testify as such. You are required to use a cover letter to write in detail your experience with the duties, strengths, key responsibilities, knowledge, skills, and abilities listed above. Minimum Qualifications:
A master’s degree from an accredited college in social work, psychology, education, child development, counseling or behavioral sciences, criminal justice, or a closely related field AND three years of professional experience working with families in the above fields.
Note: Experience in supervision, program administration, and work in a court setting is preferred.
This position is in the Partially Exempt service. The incumbent serves "at-will" to the appointing authority.
