DUTIES:

Operates snow removal equipment such as 3,000 ton per hour rotary snow blowers, snow plows with attachments (rollover and angle plows, under bodies, wings and sanders).

Operates air blast/rotary type brooms, chemical dispensers and multi-purpose sweepers.
·
Operates chemical dispensers such Epokes and Ice Eagle, to combat snow and ice conditions and to improve traction.
·
Operates equipment such as dozers and graders. Utilizes dozers to push and pile large quantities of snow in snow storage areas.
·
Performs operator maintenance, such as checking brake fluid levels and air pressure in tires, cleaning and washing of vehicles. Utilizes safety practices and procedures following safety rule and regulations.

Although a specific length of time and experience is not required for most blue-collar positions, you must meet any screen-out element listed, and show through experience and training that you possess the quality level of knowledge and skill necessary to perform the duties of the position at the level for which they are applying. Qualification requirements emphasis is on the quality of experience, not necessarily the length of time.

The purpose of this position is to operate a variety of diesel and gasoline powered snow removal and engineering utilized for snow removal of roads, parking areas and airfields.
KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS AND ABILITIES (KSAs): Your qualifications will be evaluated on the basis of your level of knowledge, skills, abilities and/or competencies in the following areas:
1. Knowledge of and skill in operating one or more gasoline and diesel powered snow removal equipment such as 3,000 ton per hour blowers, plows with attachments, graders, dump trucks, dozers, and chemical dispensers.
2. Knowledge of snow and ice control chemicals.
3. Knowledge of traffic and safety regulations, practices and procedures pertaining to motor vehicle operation.
4. Knowledge of airfield snow removal operation. Ability to judge road and traffic conditions and read installation maps to determine the shortest and safest route.
5. Ability to interpret instructions, specifications, etc. related to motor vehicle and preventive maintenance.
PART-TIME OR UNPAID EXPERIENCE
:
Credit will be given for appropriate unpaid and or part-time work.
You must clearly identify the duties and responsibilities in each position held and the total number of hours per week.
ADDITIONAL CONDITIONS OF EMPLOYMENT
:
1. Must be able to acquire an Alaska drivers license and commercial class A license. Position requires he ability to discern colors, contrast and depth.
2. May be required to work uncommon tour of duty, irregular hours and holidays. Shift work may be required.
3. May be required to train/guide other personnel.
4. Must pass flight line/runway crossing and authorization test and obtain Secret clearance.
5. May be required to travel TDY for training via commercial and military transport.

Physical Effort: Heavy physical effort is used by the operator in constantly climbing on and off vehicles; constantly reaching, bending, turning, and moving hands, arms, feet, and legs to handle different sets of controls to operate the equipment and attachments while sitting for extended periods of time. Requires physical and mental coordination and depth perception. Must be capable of lifting 75-100 pounds in changing attachments on vehicles. Considerable strain is caused by the constant vibration of the equipment and the jerking and jolting from operating over rough surfaces. Frequently required to work in awkward or strained positions. Eyestrain is probable when operating vehicles during adverse weather conditions.
Working Conditions: The employee works outside in all kinds of weather, often in an open driverÂ's seat. The operator is exposed to injury due to the possibility of the equipment overturning, and to slipping and sliding on ice or snow. Employee is subject to noise, vibration, dust, dirt, and fumes from the motor and exhaust. May be required to wear protective clothing, such as parkas, hard hats or other head coverings, steel- toed shoes, gloves, masks, and eye protection.
