Under general supervision, applies technical skills to competently provide a full! range of sample test analyses and laboratory services.
REPRESENTATIVE DUTIES
Performs full range of simple-to-complex sample testing and laboratory services. Provides specialized expertise in microbiology, transfusion medicine, molecular biology and infectious disease safety. Performs patient specimen testing. Ensures sample suitability.
Evaluates, judges and interprets test results and ensures accuracy. Accepts and processes samples for on-site testing or forwards to contracted reference laboratories. Identifies and resolves inconsistencies in patient results. Maintains laboratory equipment and instruments. Ensures quality control and functionality of instruments. Prepares lab for inspection from regulatory institutions.
Provides customer service for questions directed at the laboratory. Answers questions from patient providers regarding test processes, patient results, or sample collection techniques. Trains new employees and laboratory stu! dents. Participates in continuing education programs. Monitors! , maintains, orders and stocks laboratory supplies.
Performs other duties as assigned or required.
Required Skills
Knowledge of clinical processes and medical terminology.
Knowledge of privacy laws and regulations.
Knowledge of customer service concepts and practices.
Knowledge of protocols and practices in infectious disease control.
Skill in operating laboratory equipment.
Skill in oral and written communication.
Skill in establishing and maintaining cooperative working relationships with other employees.
Skill in operating a personal computer utilizing a variety of software applications.
Required Experience
MINIMUM EDUCATION QUALIFICATION
A Bachelor's degree in Medical Technology or related field. Progressively responsible work-related experience, education, or training may be substituted on a year-for-year basis for college education.
MINIMUM EXPERIENCE QUALIFICATION
Non-Supervisor! y- One (1) year of clinical laboratory experience. An equivalent combination of relevant education and/or training may be substituted for experience.
REQUIRED CERTIFICATION QUALIFICATION
Medical Technologist (ASCP) OR Clinical Laboratory Scientist (NCA) OR equivalent certification (as determined by a national credential certification agency).
MINIMUM PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS
The following demands are representative of those that must be met by an employee to successfully perform the essential functions of this job. This position requires the ability to stand or walk for varied periods of time. May occasionally be exposed to hazardous working environment with hazardous chemicals and infectious disease. Must be able to lift approximately 45 pounds. ANMC is not a latex free environment. Therefore, some latex exposure can be expected.
