For detail informations about this career opportunity please read the description below. The Alaska Court System (ACS) is accepting applications for the position of Law Librarian, Technical Services. The successful applicant will plan, organize, and manage the proper functioning of technical services work related to library subscriptions, the procurement of new library materials, supplies, and equipment; the cataloging and classifying of archival and library physical collections and corresponding electronic resources; the maintenance of an accurate and up to date inventory database of archival, Federal Depository Library! Program, and library materials statewide; and the processing ! of physical items added to and withdrawn from the collections on a daily basis. This position also will serve as a back-up systems administrator for the Integrated Library System (ILS) which contains cataloging, serials, circulation, and acquisitions records and the publicly accessible web catalog.
Regular job duties include:
Coordinate and manage operations performed in the technical services area for all law libraries statewide;
Serve as curator for and oversee the processing, cataloging, conservation, and preservation of the ACS and Alaska Bar Association archive collections and the Federal Depository Library Program (FDLP) collection;
Develop plans, policies, practices, workflows, and priorities within the unit for order generation, cataloging, classification, serials check-in, claiming, material processing, binding, and material withdrawal;
Perform original and complex contributed cataloging in OCLC bibliographic utility for all material! formats - monographs, serials, integrating resources, electronic resources, videos, DVDs, microforms, etc. - applying national standards;
Provide assistance assigning classification numbers for shelving and performing name and subject heading analysis on copy cataloging;
May contribute name authority records to national authority file; resolve complex bibliographic problems and conflicts in records; create metadata records for archival materials;
Serve as backup administrator for the integrated library system (ILS);
Supervise library's procurement operations for collection materials, supplies, services, and equipment; create library material purchase orders and equipment requisitions as needed;
Manage the subscriptions for and distribution of Alaska law materials in court libraries and offices statewide; oversee and train technical services unit staff in procedures for distributing Alaska law materials;
Provide legal research assistance and respond ! to reference questions in person or by phone or email from judicial off! icers, other court personnel, attorneys, paralegals, pro se litigants, and members of the general public;
Participate in professional meetings and workshops, staff meetings, employee selection, enforcement of library policies; stay aware of developments in technical services librarianship and library technology.
Minimum Qualifications:
A Master of Library Science (MLS), or an equivalent degree, from a college or university accredited by the American Library Association.
AND EITHER
Two years of library work experience.
OR
A Juris Doctor from a college or university accredited by the American Bar Association.
