More complete informations about this position opportunity kindly see the descriptions. The Alaska Court System (ACS) is recruiting for a full-time Magistrate Judge II for Aniak. Under the general supervision of the Presiding Judge and the Area Court Admi! nistrator (ACA), a Magistrate Judge II serves as the resident judicial officer.

Pursuant to Alaska Statute (AS 22.15) and the Alaska Rules of Court, the Magistrate Judge will set bail, conduct small claims trials, issue warrants, and preside as judicial officer over misdemeanor and minor offense arraignments, trials, sentencing, felony first appearances, emergency children's proceedings, and preliminary hearings. Duties also include a substantial portion of the clerical and accounting functions of the court to maintain court files, records, and accounts.

The Magistrate Judge is subject to being on-call 24 hours a day and may be required to perform duties as needed in the evenings, on weekends, and on holidays. This position is exempt from provisions of the Fair Labor Standards Act (FLSA) and is not overtime eligible. Persons appointed to Magistrate Judge are required to file financial disclosure statements with the Alaska Public Offices Commission (APOC). !

Magistrate Judges are appointed to a four-year term a! nd serve a one-year probationary period. The probationary period may be extended. Following successful completion of the probationary period, an incumbent may only be removed from office for cause during their term. A Magistrate Judge may be reappointed to additional four-year terms.

Minimum Qualifications:
1. Must be a citizen of the United State of America and of the State of Alaska.
2. Must be at least 21 years of age.
3. Must be a resident of Alaska for at least six months immediately preceding appointment as magistrate judge.
