About the Office: The District of Alaska is an
energetic, forward-looking District comprised of three staffed offices:
Anchorage, Fairbanks and Juneau. We are currently interviewing for a Paralegal
Specialist for our Juneau Office. The position also requires occasional support
of Assistant United States Attorney's located in the Anchorage and Fairbanks
offices.

Salary
Information:
The range of pay is $51,825 to $81,511. Salary ranges contain multiple steps.
In most cases, the salary will ! be set at the starting end of the range for the
grade level qualified.

If selected for this position, you will join a well-respected team
that is responsible for providing a wide range of paralegal support service! s
for Assistant United States Attorney's involved in criminal and ci! vil
prosecutions, and grand jury investigations for federally cognizable cases.
Typical work assignments will include: Preparing a variety of substantial legal documents
Conducting interviews of witnesses and potential complainants and assisting with witness preparation
Preparing a variety of trial-related documents such as discovery letters, exhibit lists, jury instructions, trial subpoenas and pretrial motions
Researching, analyzing and summarizing relevant legal precedents for applicability to assigned cases and preparing digest of points of law involved
Providing litigative case management such as organizing and cataloging extensive documentary evidence for trial Responsibilities will increase and assignments will become more complex as your training and experience progress.

GS-9:
To
be eligible at the GS-9 level, you must meet at least ONE of the
following conditions, as defined below : Specialized Experience,
Education OR a combination of Education and Experience.
Specialized
Experience:
One full year of specialized experience equivalent to the GS-7 level.
Specialized experience is defined as experience performing a variety of
paralegal duties to include legal and factual research, analysis and writing;
analyzing investigative reports and ability to determine the need for
additional information and evidence; analyzing laws, regulations, rules and
data; assisting with interviews of potential witne! sses/complainants; and using
various computerized database programs! to organize extensive evidence.
Education: One of the following
types of education in a related field (e.g., Criminal Justice, Law) - a
Master's or equivalent graduate degree (such as an LL.B.); OR 2 full years of
progressively higher level graduate education leading to such a degree.
Education at the graduate level must be in an accredited college or university
and must demonstrate the knowledge, skills and abilities necessary to perform the
duties of the position.
Combining
Education and Experience: Combinations of successfully completed
graduate education and experience may be used to meet total qualification
requirements. In order to qualify based on a combination, graduate education
must be in excess of 1 full year.
GS-11: To be eligible at
the GS-11 level, you must meet at least ONE of the following conditions,
as defined below : Specialized Experience, Education OR! a combination of
Education and Experience.
Specialized
Experience:
One
full year of specialized experience equivalent to the GS-9 level. Specialized
experience is defined as experience independently performing a variety of
analytical paralegal or legal work which demonstrates a practical knowledge of
law, the litigation and judicial process, and applicable rules, regulations,
policies and procedures. Specialized experience also includes analyzing and
evaluating legal decisions and case files to identify relevant issues and
potential evidence; conducting legal research and complex factual research;
composing legal briefs, summaries of analysis and decisions, and pre-trial
documents; interviewing witnesses and various individuals who can provide
insight into cases under review; and assisting trial attorneys with the
preparation, discovery, pretrial motions, and trial strategy in complex cases.
Education: One of the following
types of education P a L! L.M; a Ph.D. or equivalent doctoral degree; OR three
full years of progressively higher level graduate education leading to such a
degree in law, criminal justice, public administration, business
administration, or a closely related filed that provided the knowledge, skills,
and abilities necessary to do the work of a Paralegal Specialist.
Combining
Education and Experience: Combinations of successfully completed
graduate education an experience may be used to meet total qualification
requirements. In order to qualify based on a combination, graduate education
must be in excess of 2 full years.
