Detailed specification about this career opportunity please read the description below. Do you have experience in industrial workplace safety? Do you have 5 or more years of field experience in one or more of the high hazard industrie! s (construction, logging, seafood processing, or oil and gas extraction)? Or do you have a combination of 5 or more years of experience in one or more of these industries and experience as an industrial safety officer? If your answer is “yes†to any of these three, we would love to hear from you. This position will be conducting construction, seafood related, logging and other consultation and training visits as assigned. Moreover, this position is responsible for working with contractors statewide to promote and achieve the goals of our construction partnership. The incumbent will assist employers in both the private and public sector to reduce and potentially prevent injuries and illnesses within the occupational setting by providing them with the necessary information, formal and informal training and direct or indirect guidance using every resource available to them. Additionally, incumbent will ensure places of employment are safe for all employees by applying know! ledge of safety and health standards, principles and philosoph! ies of accident prevention technology/techniques and their experience in conducting work site inspections. Key responsibilities include:
Observe and analyze the job environment to determine of code violations are present,
Evaluate a variety of interrelated information involving existing and/or potential hazards related to the inspection and determine the best course of action,
Understand, interpret, apply and identify breaches of regulations related to workplace safety on the work site being inspected,
Communicate and consult effectively with agency representatives, officials, employers, workers, and the public who may be angry and inconvenienced,
Write reports and maintain records that will require the use of computer and various computer programs,
Testify as an expert witness at administrative review hearings,
Assist in preparing cases for presentation before the OSHA review board presided over an administrative law judge. We are looking to hir! e for the following demonstrated strengths :

Minimum Qualifications:
Vacancies in this job class are filled through Union referral, except for promotions, demotions, transfers, and emergency appointments.
Supplemental requirements:
One must have the ability to perform medium physical exertion to include lifting, bending, carrying, pushing, pulling, and climbing.
This position may require extensive travel, much of it to remote locations in small aircraft and boats, and it may involve exposure to inherently hazardous or potentially dang! erous environmental conditions.
One should not be afraid of heights! , because it may be required to climb to heights of three stories or more.
One should possess valid Alaska Driver’s License
