For complete informations about this job opportunity kindly see the descriptions. The Department of Corrections, Hiland Mountain Correctional Center is recruiting for an Office Assistant I.
The Combined Hiland Mountain Correctional Center is the State of Alas! ka's dedicated facility for housing female prisoners. It is a multi-level adult correctional facility located in Eagle River, Alaska.
This position is a busy receptionist post and requires background check clearance with the Department of Public Safety for the use of sensitive computer systems.
Key responsibilities include, but are not limited to, the following: Provides a full range of clerical assignments which include accepting mail deliveries, stock copy and fax machine equipment, ensure all equipment is in good working order and if not, call for maintenance, distribution of fax transmittals, provide meter readings of copy machines, distribute inmate rosters, etc; Answering, screening, and directing telephone calls to the proper department; Daily meal ticket sales and monthly meal reports; Weekly supply orders; Provide office supplies for employees and keep stock of frequently used items; Provide backup courier service; Maintain the archive room, while cont! rolling and monitoring all destroy dates of records; Maintain ! facilities training database and training file folders for each staff member; Maintain facilities emergency staff contact MS Access database; Maintain unacceptable mail log and process items accordingly; Provide assistance to staff members; and Other duties as assigned. The work schedule for this position is Monday through Friday from 8:00am to 4:30pm.

This position requires a valid Alaska driver's license.

Minimum Qualifications:
High school diploma or the equivalent.
AND
Six months of experience that includes clerical tasks such as greeting clients, answering phones, typing, filing, sorting! mail, entering data, receiving payments, making change, or maintaining! logs.
Substitution:
Education from an accredited college may substitute for the required experience (3 semester hours or 4 quarter hours equal one month of experience; 150 hours of vocational education equal one month of experience).
A Career Readiness Certificate with ACT WorkKeys® scores of skill level 3 or higher in Locating Information, skill level 3 or higher in Applied Mathematics, and skill level 3 or higher in Reading for Information will substitute for the high school diploma and required experience.
Special Note:
“High school diploma equivalent" means one of the following: 1) a G.E.D.; 2) completion of any basic adult education course equivalent to 480 class hours (16 weeks at 30 course hours per week); 3) acceptance in full standing by an accredited college or university; 4) highest grade of school completed plus an amount of paid or volunteer experience that totals 12 years and includes basic clerical t! asks such as greeting clients, answering phones, typing, filing, sorting mail, entering data, receiving payments, making change, or maintaining logs.
ACT WorkKeys® skill testing and career readiness certification is available at the Department of Labor and Workforce Development’s Alaska Job Centers.
Some positions in this class may require the incumbent to operate motor vehicles. Such positions require that the applicant possess a regular Alaska driver's license and be 18 years of age or older.
