The Juneau Attorney General's Office is currently recruiting for a full-time, permanent Law Office Assistant II position.

The incumbent must be capable of dealing with a h! igh volume of work, be detailed oriented, and be flexible as priorities change constantly. Attendance and punctuality are critical components to the success of this position. The Law Office Assistant II supervises two Law Office Assistant I positions.

KEY RESPONSIBILITIES INCLUDE (but are not limited to):
Supervisory responsibilities including monitoring day-to-day work assignments, ensuring deadlines are met, and recruiting and training new Law Office Assistants;

Prepare, format, edit, and finalize legal documents in accordance with deadlines, court rules, and prescribed department formats and requirements;

Date stamp, label, notarize, scan, and copy documents;

Arrange for service of legal documents to appropriate parties;

Schedule depositions, pre-hearing conferences, and teleconferences;

Maintain logs, trial calendars, and manage case file deadlines;

Set up a tickler reminder system for time sensit! ive activities such as pleadings, trials, hearings, motions, o! ppositions, discovery requests, conferences, and dispositions; inform staff of upcoming deadlines;

Provide receptionist duties and general administrative support for the section; and

Filing and physical file maintenance.
THE SUCCESSFUL CANDIDATE WILL HAVE SOME OR ALL OF THE FOLLOWING DESIRED STRENGTHS:

Abi lity to work calmly and productively under frequent deadline pressure and changing priorities in a distracting, fast-paced work environment with frequent interruptions;

Well-developed editing, proofreading, grammar, composition, punctuation, and spelling skills;

Strong computer skills utilizing Microsoft Word, Excel, and Outlook;

Ability to stay focused on numerous details and to maintain a high level of accuracy;

Ability to develop and to maintain cooperative working relationships with a wide variety of people in all levels of the department; and

Ability to accept supervision and direct instructi! on.
Position requires incumbent to be able to obtain a Notary Public Bond. Incumbent may be required to work overtime, work weekends and/or holidays to provide support to the assigned duty attorney.

Minimum Qualifications:
High school diploma or the equivalent;
AND
Six months of experience performing work that required keyboarding skills, proficiency in the use of office information technology and oral and written communication;
AND
Six months of experience formatting and editing documents, forms, reports or similar materials and explaining procedural requirements and processes to others.

Special Note:
The required experience may be earned concurrently.

“High School Equivalent” includes a G.E.D., or completion of any basic education course of 480 class hours (16 weeks at 30 hours per week), or six months of work experience performing duties related to the job class, or twelve months of work experience ! involving some routine tasks related to the job in question or highest ! grade of school completed plus amount of work experience which totals 12 years.

Most positions require incumbents to be able to obtain a Notary Public Bond and to be able to pass a criminal background check to meet security requirements for using criminal record networks such as APSIN and NCIC/NLETS. If this requirement is present, it will be stated in the vacancy announcement.

Some positions are required to regularly work overtime on weekends and/or holidays to provide support to the assigned duty attorney. If this requirement is present, it will be stated in the vacancy announcement and in the Position Description.
