The Department of Environmental Conservation, Division of Environmental Health is seeking to hire an Engineer I position in Wasilla , Alaska.

The primary functions of this position include,! but are not limited to:

Applying civil, environmental, and sanitary engineering theories, concepts, principles, and practices
Completing a variety of project assignments in the areas of design, construction, and operation of public drinking water systems, including the prevention, abatement, and remediation of adverse public health and environmental impacts

Performing simple to complex plan reviews of engineering designs and reviewing as-built drawings and specifications for municipal, commercial, and community public drinking water systems in the Wasilla office to determine compliance with applicable provisions of the state´s drinking water regulations

Evaluating water sources to determine whether they are surface water, true ground water, or groundwater under the influence of surface water (GWUDISW)

Completing reviews of separation distance waiver requests regarding public drinking water systems

Providing guidance and tec! hnical assistance to private citizens, construction workers, d! evelopers, professional engineers, other state agency representatives, local government representatives, and attorneys on interpreted groundwater movement; state Drinking Water Regulations; the design, operation, and maintenance of public drinking water systems; water treatment technologies; and separation distance waiver requirements

Conducting site visits to perform engineering inspections and evaluations of public drinking water systems throughout the local program area of the state to determine safety of the water source; adequacy of treatment; collection and distribution systems; operation and maintenance practices; disposal and outfall areas; existence of any hazardous conditions, such as cross-connections; determine if financial and management standards are being met; and determine compliance with the state´s drinking water regulations

Responding to and investigating complaints received by the department for drinking water problems occurring at pub! lic water systems; taking enforcement actions as a result of the above investigations or review of department documents that show public water systems are operating without the required operation certificates, or that the owner or operator of public water systems have not addressed items noted in inspections and/or sanitary surveys

Excellent written and oral communication skills with the ability to communicate well with the public, preferably with skills in inter-agency and cross-cultural communication

A high stress tolerance for organizing and effectively reviewing a large volume of work and the ability to perform well in a multi-tasking capacity

Ability to consistently and accurately collect information from various sources to solve a problem

Team-oriented and dedicated (shares knowledge)

Minimum Qualifications:
Bachelor's degree from an accredited institution in environmental engineering or a related branch of engineering;
AND
Three years of engineering experience of which two years were equivalent to an Engineering Assistant II, DEC with the State of Alaska.
OR
Master's degree from an accredited institution in environmental engineering or a related branch of engineering;
AND
One year of engineering experience equivalent to an Engineering Assistant I, DEC with the State of Alaska.

Special Note:
Electronic and electrical engineering are not considered related branches of engineering for this job class.

Special Requirement: Engineer I, DEC positions require registration as a professio! nal engineer (PE) by the State of Alaska.
