Division of Corporations, Business and Professional Licensing
is recruiting for a Paralegal II to join our team.
T! he Paralegal II serves as the division representative in processing and monitoring compliance with the continuing competency requirements for various licensing programs.
License renewal applications are randomly selected for audit and requested to provide documentation to verify completion of the required activities.
Licensees who are either unwilling or unable to comply with the audit are referred to the Paralegal II.

Duties of this position include, but are not limited to :
Communicate the requirements to the licensee and resolve noncompliance issues;
Investigates facts of the case, recommends appropriate division actions, and negotiates, drafts, and prepares agreements or voluntary license surrender documents and monitors compliance with conditions of the agreement;
Drafts and prepares the appropriate documentation and exhibits for default action to present to the board, commission, or department.
In hearings where no attorney is a! vailable to assist, this position takes the lead in developing! the defense on behalf of the agency, prepares witnesses and exhibits, and presents the state’s case before the hearing officer. In the event these matters are appealed to the Superior Court, the Paralegal II will work with the Attorney General’s office as the lead staff person to provide information on behalf of the division; and
R espond to request for documents made under the Alaska Public Records Act and in compliance with the Freedom of Information Act (FOIA).

Excellent communication skills in oral presentation;
Strong experience in preparation of written documents;
Proven l! egal research capabilities;
Fluency in litigation procedures and due process authorities of the APA;
Ability to grasp a working knowledge of the licensing programs within the division to develop an effective defense of the division’s position;
Understanding of the importance of maintaining confidentiality;
Use of professional judgment in communicating with the public;
Ability to cultivate and maintain good working relationships with all types of people;
A calm and professional demeanor in heated situations;
Experience managing multiple deadlines and use sound judgment in assessing priorities and deadlines; and
Ability to use Microsoft Office and adapt quickly to proprietary software applications.

Minimum Qualifications:
One year of experience as a Paralegal I, Victim/Witness Paralegal I, or Criminal Justice Technician II with the State of Alaska or the equivalent elsewhere.

OR

One year of study at an accredited school of law.

OR

A Bachelor's degree from an accredited college in paralegal, criminal justice, or legal studies.
