is recruiting for
a full time Law Office Assistant I
The primary responsibility of the Law Office Assistant I will be to pr! ovide direct assistance for attorneys within the Prosecution section and provide back-up assistance to the Appellate section.
This position requires a high attention to detail , flexibility , punctuality and the ability to work under strict deadlines .
Key Responsibilities Include (but are not limited to):
Prepare legal documents such as pleadings and correspondence in draft and final form in accordance with deadlines, court rules and prescribed department formats and requirements.
Format and finalize appellate and reply briefs using proper legal citation format and text-marking system when providing assistance to the Appellate section.
Review case files to determine necessary action and independently initiate correspondence and document drafts.
Prepare and provide discoverable materials to appropriate parties.
Arrange for service of legal documents to appropriate parties and complete certification to ensure documents are deliver! ed timely and provide for proof of service.
Utilize the AP! SIN criminal record network and the CRIMES case management system.
Maintain tracking systems, logs and calendars to prioritize work, manage case files and casework deadlines.
Review pleadings for changes in case status, police reports, charging forms and court appointment forms; take appropriate actions based on the information received or refer to the assigned attorney.
Enter updated information in case management system
Provide general administrative support for the section such as the arrangement of travel and accommodations, processing incoming and outgoing mail, maintaining supplies, and other tasks as needed. We are Looking to Hire Someone with the Some or All of the Following Demonstrated Strengths and Abilities:
Ability to work calmly and productively under frequent deadlines pressure and changing priorities in a fast-paced work environment with frequent interruptions.
Strong computer skills utilizing Microsoft Word, Excel and Outlook.
Ex! cellent written and oral communication skills.
Ability to stay focused on numerous details and maintain a high level of accuracy.
Ability to develop and to maintain cooperative working relationships with a wide variety of people in all levels of the department.
Ability to accept supervision and direct instruction.
Minimum Qualifications:
High school diploma or the equivalent;
AND
Six months of experience performing work that required keyboarding skills, proficiency in the use of office information technology, and oral and written communication skills.
Special Note:
“High School Equivalent†includes a G.E.D., or completion of any basic education course of 480 class hours (16 weeks at 30 hours per week), or six months of work experience performing duties related to the job class, or twelve months of work experience involving some routine tasks related to the job in question or highest grade of school completed pl! us amount of work experience which totals 12 years.
Most posit! ions require incumbents to be able to obtain a Notary Public Bond and to be able to pass a criminal background check to meet security requirements for using criminal record networks such as APSIN and NCIC/NLETS. If this requirement is present, it will be stated in the vacancy announcement.
Some positions are required to work regular overtime on weekends and/or holidays to provide support to the assigned duty attorney. If this requirement is present, it will be stated in the vacancy announcement and in the Position Description.
