Detailed specification about this vacancy opportunity kindly see the descriptions. The Alaska Court System (ACS) is recruiting for a Legal Technician in support of the Appellate Courts in Anchorage. This position will perform case management duties and exercise excellent customer service and teamwork skills while producing a professional work product.
Regular job duties will include:
Open new appeals, set up files, determine what may need to be done before an opening notice can be issued and take appropriate steps; prepare and distribute opening notices; notify trial court clerk and judges of pending appeal;
Set up due dates for next steps and issue other notices as needed; enter all opening data into computer and set appropriate follow-up tasks; copy, scan, email and distribute documents as appropriate;
Evaluate motions to determine if they are routine, individual justice/judge, or full-court and how and to whom they should be routed; enter all motions and opposition data in computer;
Analyze and assign individual justice/judge and full-court motions; compose assignment memos, relief requested in the motion, whether the motion is opposed, and other pertinent facts;
Receive notices of completion of trial court record preparation and receipt of transcripts; calculate brief due dates; prepare and distribute notices to parties;
Receive and route petitions/memoranda and responses; compose, sign, and distribute orders on petitions for review, petitions for hearing, original applications, Bar matters, and other matters;
Determine availability of case information for public inspection and maintain confidentiality of information as appropriate;
Follow prescribed steps to close cases, including returning the record to the appropriate clerk and analyze cost bills submitted by prevailing parties in civil appeals;
Act as back-up for front counter one day a week, more often depending on staffing; reconcile cash drawer; assist customers at front counter and answer main office phone;
Assist in training new case managers, including periodic shifts spent sitting with new case managers for training;
Other duties as assigned.

Minimum Qualifications:
Graduation from high school or completion of a General Education Development (GED) certificate AND one year of advanced clerical work experience equivalent to a Deputy Clerk II with the Alaska Court System or an equivalent position with another employer AND the ability to type at least 40 words per minute.
OR
Graduation from high school or completion of a General Education Development (GED) certificate AND completion of a two-year paralegal curriculum from an accredited institution AND the ability to type at least 40 words per minute.
OR
A bachelor's degree from an accredited college AND the ability to type at least 40 words per minute.
