Under general supervision, oversees departmental technical services of the clinical processes and pr! ocedures to ensure accurate and efficient laboratory testing and analysis, and performs a full range of laboratory testing services.
REPRESENTATIVE DUTIES
Performs full range of simple-to-complex sample testing and laboratory services. Provides specialized expertise in the assigned department. Responsible for compliance with all regulatory requirements as required by CLIA ’88, CAP, and The Joint Commission.
Evaluates, judges and interprets test results and ensures accuracy. Performs instrument and analyzer records review. Identifies and resolves inconsistencies in patient results. Maintains laboratory equipment and instruments and troubleshoots problems. Performs as a designated “Key Operator†on all equipment in the assigned department. Prepares and represents department during inspections from regulatory and accreditation agencies.
In the assigned department, oversees and reviews instrument maintenance processes and calibrations, QC op! erations, inventory control processes, and correlation and lin! earity studies. Participates in quality assurance initiatives.
Provides customer service for questions directed at the laboratory. Serves as resource and content expert for staff and healthcare providers. Trains new employees and laboratory students, and assures that all training documentation is completed. Participates in continuing education programs.
Performs other duties as assigned or required.
Required Skills

Skill in operating and troubleshooting laboratory equipment.

Skill in establishing and maintaining cooperative working relationships with other employees.
Skill in ! operating a personal computer utilizing a variety of software applications.
Required Experience
MINIMUM EDUCATION QUALIFICATION
A Bachelor's degree in Medical Technology or related field. Progressively responsible work-related experience, education, or training may be substituted on a year-for-year basis for college education.
MINIMUM EXPERIENCE QUALIFICATION
Non-Supervisory- Five (5) years of clinical laboratory experience. An equivalent combination of relevant education and/or training may be substituted for experience.
REQUIRED CERTIFICATION QUALIFICATION
Medical Technologist (ASCP) OR Clinical Laboratory Scientist (NCA) OR equivalent certification by a national credential certification agency
MINIMUM PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS
The following demands are representative of those that must be met by an employee to successfully perform the essential functions of this job. This position requires the ability to stand or w! alk for varied periods of time. May occasionally be exposed to hazardou! s working environment with hazardous chemicals and infectious disease. Must be able to lift approximately 45 pounds. ANMC is not a latex free environment. Therefore, some latex exposure can be expected.
