The Alaska Court System (ACS) is recruiting for a Deputy Clerk II within the Criminal Division of the Anchorage Trial Courts. A Deputy Clerk performs responsible f! unctions which support daily operations of the division.
Regular job duties will include:
Accept charging documents for filing; assign case numbers; set up case files and calendar cases for arraignment; coordinate prisoner transport with local transport sections and correctional facilities for in-custody arraignment;
Enter identifying data into index at inception of each case; enter arraignment calendaring information, arrest/bench warrant information, and prepare same for issue;
Process out-of-town cases for proceedings in Anchorage; coordinate future court dates with court of origin; maintain index of out-of-town cases; return paperwork to court of origin at conclusion of proceedings;
Review case files for accuracy; type and issue warrants, summons, and orders to show cause as ordered by the judicial officer on record; prepare and process orders for psychiatric reports;
Close case files; screen files to ensure proper order in compliance! with existing procedures; disperse closing documents to appro! priate parties/agencies;
Document felony cases; prepare files before and after grand jury proceedings; coordinate cases being presented to grand jury; maintain index of search warrants issued by the judge or magistrate judge;
Reopen cases based on defendants' failure to comply/petition to revoke probation, following existing procedures; route files to judge for issue of summons/warrant;
Interview defendants during non-custody arraignments; may travel to and from jail to conduct interviews of in-custody defendants who request court-appointed counsel; complete financial statement given by defendant; make recommendations to the judge regarding appointment or denial of counsel;
Interview parent(s) or legal guardian(s) in juvenile or child in need of aid cases as directed by Children's Court; as directed by judge, interview defendants in civil contempt charges, criminal indictments, paternity cases, certain child custody and probate cases, among others; Upon comp! letion of training, Deputy Clerks II are required to train for weekend duty for one month; duties for the weekend clerk include processing in-custody arraignments.

Minimum Qualifications:
Graduation from high school or completion of a General Education Development (GED) certificate AND one year of office clerical experience AND the ability to type at least 40 words per minute.
Substitution:
Additional office clerical work experience will substitute for the high school diploma or GED certificate on a month-for-month basis.
Completion of 36 semester credit hours or 48 quarter credit hours of coursework from an accredited college will substitute for the year of required office clerical experience.
Completion of an appropriate voc! ational training course of study such as legal secretary, paralegal, or! office skills will substitute for the required office clerical experience on a month-for-month basis.
