Location: Anchorage, Alaska

Description: Workplace Alaska is at present recruited Office Assistant I (PCN 20-5202) right now, this position will be designated in Alaska. The Department of Corrections, Anchorage Correctional Complex (ACC) is currently recruiting for an Office Assistant I. This position is responsible for performing a vari! ety of challenging and rewarding administrative duties. ACC is one of the largest facilities in the state and houses 800 to 1000 inmates who are sentenced and unsentenced felons and misdemeanants. Key responsibilities include, but are not limited to:
Perform receptionist duties: use multi-line phone and direct calls; screen visitors and sign-up for visits; monitor conduct of visitors in lobby area; and disseminate information.
Greet visitors and direct to proper station: operate a metal detector, wand and x-ray equipment for security of court and facility.
Receive money for inmate accounts, bail and bonds; receipt and balance daily.
Intake mail: distribute to staff and sort inmate mail; screen inmate mail for contraband and inappropriate items; and post outgoing mail.
Assist staff in Records, Booking, Property, Administration, Standards and / or Education sections, as well as other duties as assigned.
This position’s work sc! hedule is Monday through Friday 8:00am to 4:30pm.

Minimum Qualifications:
High school diploma or the equivalent.
AND
Six months of experience that includes clerical tasks such as greeting clients, answering phones, typing, filing, sorting mail, entering data, receiving payments, making change, or maintaining logs.

Substitution:
Education from an accredited college may substitute for the required experience (3 semester hours or 4 quarter hours equal one month of experience; 150 hour! s of vocational education equal one month of experience).

A Ca! reer Readiness Certificate with ACT WorkKeys® scores of skill level 3 or higher in Locating Information, skill level 3 or higher in Applied Mathematics, and skill level 3 or higher in Reading for Information will substitute for the high school diploma and required experience.

Special Note:
“High school diploma equivalent" means one of the following: 1) a G.E.D.; 2) completion of any basic adult education course equivalent to 480 class hours (16 weeks at 30 course hours per week); 3) acceptance in full standing by an accredited college or university; 4) highest grade of school completed plus an amount of paid or volunteer experience that totals 12 years and includes basic clerical tasks such as greeting clients, answering phones, typing, filing, sorting mail, entering data, receiving payments, making change, or maintaining logs.

ACT WorkKeys® skill testing and career readiness certification is available at the Department of Labor and W! orkforce Development’s Alaska Job Centers.

Some positions in this class may require the incumbent to operate motor vehicles. Such positions require that the applicant possess a regular Alaska driver's license and be 18 years of age or older.

Some positions in this class may require skill in typing. Recruitment and selection may include this requirement.
