The Alaska Court System (ACS) is recruiting for a Deputy Clerk II in support of the Juneau Trial Court Criminal Division. The selected applicant will maintain the accuracy an! d integrity of criminal case files by ensuring the timely and accurate processing of documents issued by the Court.

DAILY ARRAIGNMENT CALENDAR:
Obtain list of new arrests each morning from the jail; review criminal complaints and citations to identify first appearance dates; enter calendaring information into the computer system; notify out of town courts when a defendant will appear in the Juneau court;
Notify court, attorneys, and other persons of late additions or changes to the calendar; identify add-on cases to be addressed in court; pull files as necessary; distribute copies of the calendar to the judge, attorneys, in-court clerk, and appropriate agencies; route case files to the judge for review before court. PRISONER TRANSPORT:

Maintain daily contact with the state correctional facilities and Judicial Services to review court calendar, confirm in-custody status of defendants, and if District Court needs coverage, arrange prisoner tra! nsport. NEW CASE SET-UP AND AFTER-COURT PAPERWORK:

Op! en new criminal cases by setting up file folders and computer records; open newly indicted felony cases in similar manner;
Distribute copies of indictments to appropriate agencies; notify Clerk of Court of any issues pertaining to search warrants or when search warrants are unsealed after a grand jury hearing;
Prepare public defender appointment orders; review court tag reports following court; transmit temporary orders for city and state correctional facilities relating to the commitment or release of defendants following court;
Complete and close computer record of Superior Court criminal cases after disposition; distribute judgments or final orders; refile cases when closed;
Review and route all state and city restitution judgments for signature; copy and distribute judgments to appropriate agencies; answer questions from probation officers, defendants, victims, and city and state collection agencies;
Process Suspended Imposition of Sentence (SIS) Ord! ers; enter SIS dates into computer system. CRIMINAL FILE MAINTENANCE:

Review criminal case-related filings to ensure they are lodged in conformance with court rules; place documents in appropriate case file; identify filings that need expedited action;
Perform yearly audit of outstanding bench warrants and contact prosecutors of any needed motion; review out of town files; close cases and return original paperwork to originating court;
Conduct regular review of outstanding warrants and summons; check status of cases with charging agency. OTHER DUTIES:

Respond to routine telephone requests for criminal case information relating to calendaring, bail, fines, motions, judgments, orders, warrants, or other matters; complete request for copies of case file documents; assist customers at front counter;
Prepare all civil and criminal bench warrants for failures to comply with orders of the court; respond to inquiries regarding status of warrants; sched! ule hearings;
Assist the Clerk of Court in training of deputy clerk! s in new, revised, or problematic items relating to criminal cases; cover the desks of other criminal clerks if out of the office. The list of applicants generated from this recruitment may be used to fill any future vacancies of this job class in the Juneau Trial Courts occurring within 60 days of the closing date.

Minimum Qualifications:
Graduation from high school or completion of a General Education Development (GED) certificate AND one year of office clerical experience AND the ability to type at least 40 words per minute.

Substitution:
Additional office clerical work experience will substitute for the high school diploma or GED certificate on a month-for-month basis.
Completion of 36 semester credit hours or 48 quarter credit hours of coursework from an accredited college will substitute for the year of required office clerical experience.
Completion of an appropriate vocational training course of study such as legal sec! retary, paralegal, or office skills will substitute for the required office clerical experience on a month-for-month basis.
