This recruitment is limited to current regular and partially exempt employees of the ACS and former employees who s! eparated within the last six months. A probationary employee must be continuously employed with the ACS for at least six months to compete in any internal recruitment process. An employee who separated in good standing within six months from the date of application, while holding a regular appointment in the ACS, may compete as an internal applicant. Exempt and temporary employees are not eligible to apply.

The Palmer Trial Courts of the Alaska Court System (ACS) is seeking applications for Chief Deputy Clerk II. Under general supervision of the Clerk of Court, the incumbent will provide supervisory, technical, and training support to non-judicial staff at the Palmer Trial Court.

Regular duties will include:
Assist the Clerk of Court in the ongoing management of the Palmer court divisions; study and analyze clerical functions and procedures and make recommendations to the Clerk of Court for establishing new procedures or modifications of existin! g procedures;
Make recommendations regarding management, p! ersonnel, and procedural issues; responsible for the overall productivity of the trial court divisions to ensure maximum efficiency is maintained;
Serve as the working supervisor of the Criminal Division; responsible for the training and management of all employees in the division, preparing and conducting 6-month and annual evaluations of clerks; responsible for workflow and work allocation of the division, coordination of Grand Jury and receiving and receipting bail money and/or bonds from DOC;
Assist the Clerk of Court with communication and coordination with maintenance of any repairs needed and quarterly preventive maintenance; as well as issues and problems with janitors, snow plow contractors, and landscapers;
Provide technical support and training to the Palmer court's divisions, including assuming supervisory responsibilities for individual divisions in the absence of the supervisor; coordinate requests for assistance between divisions; maintain regular! contact with all supervisors and communicate all departmental issues to the Clerk of Court;
Act as Clerk of Court in their absence, including signature authority as authorized by statute or rule;
Serve as Deputy Magistrate: acceptance of criminal complaints; issuance of summons and arrest warrants; notary duties; issuance of marriage licenses and performance of marriages;
Responsible for coordinating the training of Palmer court employees; all mandatory training as required by the Office of the Administrative Director, Presiding Judge, ACA, or Clerk of Court including customer service, harassment prevention, and diversity training; computer training (Desktop, Windows, MS Word and Outlook); case processing and technical training.
Other duties and projects as assigned.

Minimum Qualifications:
A high school diploma or General Educational Development (GED) certificate AND two years of technical or professional legal work experience wi! th the Alaska Court System, a law firm, or justice agency AND one year ! of work experience supervising clerical, technical, or professional employees.
OR
A bachelor’s degree from an accredited college AND one year of work experience supervising clerical, technical, or professional employees.
