Earthjustice’s Alaska offices (Juneau and Anchorage) are accepting applications from current 2Ls and 3Ls for legal clerkships during the summer of 2013.
Eart! hjustice is a nation-wide environmental non-profit law firm representing non-profit organizations in local and national environmental litigation. We seek to protect people and natural resources by enforcing and strengthening environmental law and providing clients with the best legal representation and related advocacy. Focus areas of the Alaska offices include:
conservation of the Alaska coastal rain forest,
protection of sensitive areas in the Arctic from oil and gas development,
conservation of the Bering Sea and Gulf of Alaska marine ecosystems,
enforcement of air and water quality laws and regulations, and
management of public lands.
Under the direction of attorneys, law clerks’ primary responsibilities are to prepare legal research and writing in furtherance of existing litigation and to aid in the development and evaluation of new cases. Clerks may also draft pleadings and prepare comments on agency regulations ! and actions.
Applicants must currently be in their 2n! d or 3rd year of law school. Excellent writing and research skills are required. Education or experience with environmental and/or administrative law is preferred although anyone with a sincere interest in environmental advocacy is encouraged to apply. The internship begins in May/June 2013. Interns are expected to work for at least 10 weeks although we may entertain split internships for exceptional candidates. A $4,500 stipend will be available to defray travel and living expenses.
Anchorage and Juneau both offer breathtaking scenery and outstanding access to recreational opportunities and wilderness.
