Are you seeking a legal clerical position?
The Alaska Court System (ACS) seeks a Deputy Clerk III to in-court for District and Superior Court criminal matters as well as perform all duties related to the processing of criminal case files.
The successful applicant will apply excellent customer service skills in the performance of the following:
Serve as an in-court clerk on criminal matters, including trials;
Prepare the courtroom for hearings, post daily court calendar, test recording equipment; ensure sufficient quantities of materials and supplies are available;
Announce opening and closing of court proceedings; swear in witnesses; mark and maintain exhibit sheets; prepare jury roll forms and witness lists;
Process files and paperwork when hearings are complete; follow up with temporary orders, pre-sentence report orders, bench warrants, orders to show cause, misdemeanor, and felony judgments;
Accept criminal/civil complaints and traffic citations; open and close case files; receipt fines and bail monies; assign case numbers; issue summons, warrants, and subpoenas;
Prepare and accept documents for filing as cases progress; enter motions in motion tracking and update as filings are made;
Distribute orders and judgments from the court; run and review audit reports to ensure accuracy of data; prepare case files for transfer to court of appeals;
Provide case-related information to attorneys, parties, corrections officials, and other interested parties;
Assist customers over the phone, at the front counter, and in the courtroom; may serve as bailiff during jury deliberations; other duties as assigned.

Minimum Qualifications:
Graduation from high school or completion of a General Education Development (GED) certificate AND one year of office clerical experience AND the ability to type at least 40 words per minute.
Substitution:
Additional office clerical work experience will substitute for the high school diploma or GED certificate on a month-for-month basis.
Completion of 36 semester credit hours or 48 quarter credit hours of coursework from an accredited college will substitute for the year of required office clerical experience.
Completion of an appropriate vocational training course of study such as legal secretary, paralegal, or office skills will substitute for the required office clerical experience on a month-for-month basis.
