Motor Vehicle Customer Service Representatives I in Anchorage Driver Licensing are the main direct-service providers for all Alaska Drivers’ dealing with any and all issues regarding their drivers’ license. The work requires applying knowledge of the statutes, regulations, policies, and procedures to issue driver licenses, rev! oke, suspend, cancel or disqualify driver licenses, and to enf! orce laws and judgments that impact drivers’ licenses.
Incumbents have considerable interaction with the public in person, by phone, and through electronic and traditional mail. The interactions require incumbents to communicate clearly to understand the desired results, retrieve and enter data in a variety of computer programs, and provide information on eligibility and requirements as well as what actions will best meet the individual’s needs.
Incumbents work with considerable independence in completing licensing and compliance actions. The work is circumscribed by regulation and established policies and procedures. Supervisory assistance is available for questions or issues outside the incumbent’s training or experience.
Duties include, but are not limited to:
Receive and process requests for driver records. Examine request and supporting documentation to determine if requestor is authorized to receive records; search databases! for records; deliver records to requestor; explain information on records as necessary.
Examine court orders revoking or suspending driver licenses; determine if judgment includes all actions required by statutes; notify supervisor of actions not included; update databases to suspend or revoke license; notify driver of actions taken.
Act as support staff to Administrative Hearing Officers; act as liaison between law enforcement agencies, attorneys, courts & defendants. Incumbents have access to confidential information for all Alaska Drivers’ regarding all actions against their licenses’ and must be aware of what can or cannot be disclosed in all scenarios.
Provide information on motor vehicle licensing, titling, and registration statutes and regulations to individuals, attorneys, law enforcement officers, and so on.
Answer questions on requirements and give instructions on forms and procedures to comply with State and federal requirements.
The! ideal applicant will possess the following demonstrated knowledge, ski! lls and abilities:
Knowledge of customer service manners and techniques for interacting with people of different ages, backgrounds, ethnicities, and levels of education.
Skill in communicating with angry, upset, frustrated individuals to receive and provide information and/or provide a service.
Demonstrated significant attention to detail.
Ability to read, understand, and follow organization policies and standard operating procedures.
Ability to communicate the requirements and procedures established by statutes and regulations in plain and comprehensible language.
Ability to work efficiently in stressful situations; maintain composure when working with angry or confused customers; and maintain efficiency in an office with a high volume of customers.
Experience using Microsoft Programs, including Word, Access, Excel & Outlook, or similar suite of office programs.
Experience in dealing with confidential documents or information.
Mi! nimum Qualifications:
Six months of employment experience that included cash handling and working directly with clients or customers. Examples of qualifying experience include such work as sales cashier, bank teller, food service wait staff or cashier, and so on.
OR
Six months of office clerical employment experience providing information to clients, customers, or the general public on services, procedures, and requirements, which included entering or retrieving data using computer systems.
Substitution:
Postsecondary education from an accredited college may substitute for the required experience. (Three semester hours or four quarter hours equal one month.)
Special Note:
A background check of criminal justice information will be conducted upon initial employment.
A candidate’s ability to perform alphanumeric data entry is one of the areas evaluated during the hiring process. Candidates selected for an inter! view will be required to provide the results of an alphanumeric data en! try skill test conducted within the previous six months. The test may be taken at any of the Alaska Department of Labor and Workforce Development’s Job Service Centers.
