The Alaska Court System (ACS) seeks a Deputy Clerk II in support of the Court Services Division of the Fairbanks Trial Courts. This position provides customer service to court patrons, which includes answering questions, accepting new cases for filing, and processing records requests. The position also assists accounting and traffic clerical functions.
Regular duties include:
Provide customer service to court patrons within the standards of the ACS;
Answer phones, assist the public, and accept new civil a! nd small claims cases for filing;
Review new cases for fil! ing and compliance with court rules, to include general civil, change of name, dissolutions, foreign judgments, and small claims;
Issue summons and subpoenas and schedule dissolution hearings;
Examine all documents in civil, small claims, and criminal cases before they are accepted for filing; docket using CourtView;
Determine appropriate action for all documents filed with the court, including routing and delivery of files to correct locations;
File confidential material within court guidelines, including court home reports, child custody investigator reports, pre-sentence reports, psychological reports, documents in aid of sentencing, etc.;
Recognize and handle documents requiring priority action, including expedited motions, stipulations, attorney requests for hearing, returned warrants, etc.;
Use CourtView to locate case file information, including costs and amounts due; handle correspondence from the public with extensions for payment, inquiries! as to fine amount, due date, etc.;
Process minor offenses; docket all non-motion pleadings in CourtView;
Assist other departments as needed; other duties as assigned. The list of applicants generated from this recruitment may be used to fill any future vacancies of this job class in the Court Services Division occurring within 60 days.
Minimum Qualifications:
Graduation from high school or completion of a General Education Development (GED) certificate AND one year of office clerical experience AND the ability to type at least 40 words per minute.
Substitution:
Additional office clerical work experience will substitute for the high school diploma or GED certificate on a month-for-month basis.
Completion of 36 semester credit hours or 48 quarter credit hours of coursework from an accredited college will substitute for the year of required office clerical experience.
Completion of an appropriate vocational training cour! se of study such as legal secretary, paralegal, or office skills will s! ubstitute for the required office clerical experience on a month-for-month basis.
