Detailed specification about this occupation opportunity kindly see the descriptions. The Alaska Court System (ACS) is recruiting for a Deputy Clerk II to support the Petersburg Trial Court. This part-time position is currently scheduled to work 52.5 hours total per month. The work schedule will be determined in consultation with the hiring authority and the selected applicant.
Regular duties will include:
Respond to a variety of inquiries in person and on the phone from the public, attorneys, court staff, and other agencies;
Accept pleadings for filing, ! including civil complaints, petitions, answers, motions, and a! ttachments;
Generate receipts for funds received for bail money, fines, filing fees, notary, photocopying, and civil deposits;
Act as notary: accept marriage license applications, assist in entering and closing cases in computer; issue writs of execution;
Prepare marriage licenses and submit necessary reports for Bureau of Vital Statistics; prepare monthly judicial officer bench time report; order forms and office supplies; perform bookkeeping duties in absence of the Clerk of Court;
Maintain master jury list; screen juror questionnaires for qualification purposes; monitor jury attendance; maintain jury pay records and authorize disbursement of payments; prepare summons for jurors for duty;
Backup in-court clerk: set up courtroom for the day; operate recording equipment and prepare hearing notes during proceedings; administer oaths to witnesses and jurors; receive and secure all exhibits;
Maintain law library materials; update Alaska St! atutes, Alaska Administrative Code, Administrative Bulletins, Rules of Court, and Forms Books;
Assist in maintaining technology devices (computers, fax, printer, copier, recording equipment). The list of applicants generated from this recruitment may be used to fill any future vacancies of this job class in the Petersburg Trial Courts occurring within 60 days.
Minimum Qualifications:
Graduation from high school or completion of a General Education Development (GED) certificate AND one year of office clerical experience AND the ability to type at least 40 words per minute.
Substitution:
Additional office clerical work experience will substitute for the high school diploma or GED certificate on a month-for-month basis.
Completion of 36 semester credit hours or 48 quarter credit hours of coursework from an accredited college will substitute for the year of required office clerical experience.
Completion of an appropriate voca! tional training course of study such as legal secretary, paralegal, or ! office skills will substitute for the required office clerical experience on a month-for-month basis.
