Hourly Salary: $26.21-30.60

The primary purpose of this position is to operate a variety of diesel and gasoline powered snow removal and engin! eering utilized for snow removal of roads, parking areas and airfields.!

Operates snow removal equipment, such as 3,000 ton per hour rotary snow blowers, snow plows with attachments (i.e. rollover and angle plows, underbodies, wings and sanders.

Operates airblast/rotary type brooms, chemical dispensers and multi-purpose sweeper, such as Tymco sweepers to remove snow and ice from airfield.

Operates chemical dispenser, such as sanders, Epokes and Ice Eagle.

Operates equipment such as dozers and graders.

Performs operator maintenance, such as checking fluid levels and air pressure in tires, cleaning and washing of vehicles, and performing inspection checklists to ensure safe and proper operation.

Utilizes safety practices and procedures following established safety rules and regulations and maintains a safe and clean work environment.

Although a specific length of time and experience is not required for most trade and labor occupations, you must meet any screen-out element(s) listed, and show through experience and training that you possess the quality level of knowledge and skill necessary to perform the duties of the position at the level for which applying. Qualification requirements emphasis is on the quality of experience, not necessarily the length of time.

The screen out elements for this position are

(

1) Operate airfield sweepers with multiple drive controls to sweep roads, parking lots, runways, streets, and confined areas.

(2) Operate special purpose airfield clearing equipment to clear runways, taxiways, ramps, and aprons of snow, ice, or foreign objects.

(3)
Perform minor maintenance on airfield sweepers to include such t! asks as adjusting brushes and spray bars, tightening valve cover gaskets, and adjusting and replacing vacuum nozzle rubber curtains and skid plates.

Physical Effort: Heavy physical effort is used by the operator in constantly climbing on and off vehicles; constantly reaching, bending, turning, and moving hands, arms, feet, and legs to handle different sets of controls to operate the equipment and attachments while sitting for extended periods of time. Requires physical and mental coordination and depth perception. Must be capable of lifting 75-100 pounds in changing attachments on vehicles. Considerable strain is caused by the constant vibration of the equipment and the jerking and jolting from operating over rough surfaces. Frequently required to work in awkward or strained positions. Eyestrain is probable when operating vehicles during adverse weather conditions.

Working Conditions: The employee works outside in all kinds of weather, often ! in an open driverÂ's seat. The operator is exposed to injury due to the possibility of the equipment overturning, and to slipping and sliding on ice or snow. Employee is subject to noise, vibration, dust, dirt, and fumes from the motor and exhaust. May be required to wear protective clothing, such as parkas, hard hats or other head coverings, steel- toed shoes, gloves, masks, and eye protection.

KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS AND ABILITIES (KSAs): Your qualifications will be evaluated on the basis of your level of knowledge, skills, abilities and/or competencies in the following areas:

Knowledge of and skill in operating one or more gasoline and diesel powered snow removal equipment such as 3,000 ton per hour blowers, plows with attachments, graders, dump trucks, dozers, chemical dispensers.

Knowledge of snow and ice control chemicals.

Knowledge of traffic and safety regulations, practices, and procedures pertaining to motor vehicle operation. !

Knowledge of airfield snow removal operation.

Ability! to judge road/traffic conditions and read installation maps to determine the shortest and safest route.

Ability to interpret instructions, specifications, etc. related to motor vehicle operation and preventive maintenance.

PART-TIME OR UNPAID EXPERIENCE

:

Credit will be given for appropriate unpaid and or part-time work.

You must clearly identify the duties and responsibilities in each position held and the total number of hours per week.

ADDITIONAL CONDITIONS OF EMPLOYMENT

:

Must be able to acquire an Alaska drivers license and a commercial Class A license.

2.

Position requires the ability to discern colors, contrast and depth.

3.

May be required to work uncommon tour of duty, irregular hours and holidays.

4.

Shift work may be required.

5.

May be required to train and or guide other personnel.

6.

Must! be able to pass flight line/runway crossing authorization test and security clearance.

7.

May be required to travel TDY for training via commercial and military transportation.
