Office Assistant I
position to serve in the Child Protection Section. ! An office assistant I in this office must be capable of dealing with a high volume of work, be detail oriented, and be flexible as priorities change constantly. Attendance and punctuality are critical components to the success of this position.

Key Responsibilities Include (but are not limited to):
Copies voluminous amounts of confidential discovery and other documents according to instructions provided by paralegals and attorneys.

Conducts a court run three times per day to file pleadings in various court and state agencies.

Distributes discovery to appropriate individual by hand delivery, mail or courier.

Answers incoming telephone calls and directs callers to the appropriate individual or section.

Completes billing letters to be distributed with discovery mailings.

Accurately totals the charges from the billing letters and forwards the monthly report to the fiscal section.

Process the section's mai! l by taking outgoing mail to the Administrative Section for po! stage; retrieving incoming mail and distributing to appropriate mail slots.

Miscellaneous clerical tasks such as data entry, case management, prepare new case files, inventory and restock section office supplies and forms, and perform other related duties as assigned.

Provide back-up to Law Office Assistants as necessary.
We are looking for some or all of the following demonstrated strengths:
Ability to work calmly and productively under frequent deadline pressure and changing priorities in a distracting, fast-paced work environment with frequent interruptions.

Well-developed editing, proofreading, grammar, composition, punctuation, and spelling skills.

Strong computer skills utilizing Microsoft Word, Excel, and Outlook.

Ability to stay focused on numerous details and to maintain a high level of accuracy.

Ability to develop and to maintain cooperative working relationships with a wide variety of people in all lev! els of the department.

Ability to accept supervision and direct instruction.

Ability to work under a variety of different people and meet all their needs in a timely fashion.

Minimum Qualifications:
High school diploma or the equivalent.
AND
Six months of experience that includes clerical tasks such as greeting clients, answering phones, typing, filing, sorting mail, entering data, receiving payments, making change, or maintaining logs.

Substitution:
Education from an accredited college may substitute for the required experience (3 semester hours or 4 quarter hours equal one month of experience; 150 hours of vocational education equal one month of experience).

A Career Readiness Certificate with ACT WorkKeys® scores of skill l! evel 3 or higher in Locating Information, skill level 3 or higher in Ap! plied Mathematics, and skill level 3 or higher in Reading for Information will substitute for the high school diploma and required experience.

Special Note:
“High school diploma equivalent" means one of the following: 1) a G.E.D.; 2) completion of any basic adult education course equivalent to 480 class hours (16 weeks at 30 course hours per week); 3) acceptance in full standing by an accredited college or university; 4) highest grade of school completed plus an amount of paid or volunteer experience that totals 12 years and includes basic clerical tasks such as greeting clients, answering phones, typing, filing, sorting mail, entering data, receiving payments, making change, or maintaining logs.

ACT WorkKeys® skill testing and career readiness certification is available at the Department of Labor and Workforce Development’s Alaska Job Centers.

Some positions in this class may require the incumbent to operate motor vehicles.! Such positions require that the applicant possess a regular Alaska driver's license and be 18 years of age or older.

Some positions in this class may require skill in typing. Recruitment and selection may include this requirement.
