The Alaska Court System (ACS) is recruiting for a Deputy Clerk III within the Fairbanks Trial Courts. The selected applicant will serve as an in-cou! rt clerk and as a second clerk in the courtroom in the capacity of case manager. The incumbent will support technological advances and case management efficiencies in the courtroom.

Regular duties will include:
COURTROOM PREPARATION

Open the courtroom; print daily courtroom calendar and export CourtSmart event calendar from InfoView; bring case files from chambers to the courtroom;
Post calendar; prepare the courtroom for daily proceedings; make sure all needed supplies are available for clerk, judge, and parties;
Ensure that CourtSmart and the computer are operating properly; open all computer applications needed; perform a microphone test;
For jury trials, prepare the jury room; retrieve jury list if trial is scheduled; unlock the courtroom for parties ten minutes prior to hearing times. COURTROOM PROCEEDING

Ensure all parties are present in the courtroom and connect telephonic parties; direct counsel and witnesses to rema! in near microphones in order to make a good record;
Closel! y monitor the recorder at all times to ensure a clear record is made;
Prepare word logs/tag reports and other forms used in the courtroom on the computer, including witness lists and exhibit lists;
File stamp, initial, and date all paperwork filed in open court; lodge documents submitted for signature. TRIALS

Obtain any exhibits from storage and distribute jury notebooks; maintain log notes, tags, and tag reports in a clear and understandable fashion;
Swear in witnesses;
Mark and maintain exhibits and exhibit lists; prepare jury roll forms and witness lists;
During jury deliberations, be on call during and after work hours for playback of testimony;
At conclusion of trials, account for all exhibits and prepare them for storage. COURTROOM CASE MANAGER

Prepare and distribute documents, electronic or paper, in the courtroom; data entry of case information into CourtView (i.e., docketing, disposition, conditions of release or probation,! party maintenance, etc.);
Calendar future court hearings; result hearings;
Comply with court rules, statutes, and clerical procedures; issue and quash bench warrants. OUT OF COURT DUTIES

Docket non-motion paperwork filed in open court; result hearings in CourtView;
Process all files and paperwork when hearings are complete; follow up in a timely fashion, i.e., bail orders, temporary orders, pre-sentence orders, etc.;
Place exhibits in permanent storage;
Restock courtroom supplies. IRREGULAR DUTIES

May be assigned to work a non-standard work week of Tuesday through Saturday or Wednesday through Sunday; work extended hours and be on call when directed to do so;
Travel to outlying areas for any court matters set before a judge from Fairbanks, or to cover a judge from an outlying area when needed;
Cover any ex parte domestic violence or children's hearings that come up for court after 4:30 pm or over the weekend;
Assist other d! epartments as needed. The list of applicants generated from this recrui! tment may be used to fill any future vacancies of this job class in the Fairbanks Trial Courts occurring within 60 days.

Minimum Qualifications:
Graduation from high school or completion of a General Education Development (GED) certificate AND one year of office clerical experience AND the ability to type at least 40 words per minute.

Substitution:
Additional office clerical work experience will substitute for the high school diploma or GED certificate on a month-for-month basis.
Completion of 36 semester credit hours or 48 quarter credit hours of coursework from an accredited college will substitute for the year of required office clerical experience.
Completion of an appropriate vocational training course of study such as legal secretary, paralegal, or office skills will substitute for the required office clerical experience on a month-for-month basis.
