ENSTAR is seeking a regular full-time Homer based Service Technician/Helper to join our Service Team.
Physical Effort
Sitting, standing, walking! , bending over, crouching, kneeling, pushing or pulling, talking, repetitive use of hands and arms, repetitive use of legs, grasping, lifting and carrying of up to 25 lbs., eye/hand coordination, and fine manipulation.
Visual Acuity
Close vision (clear at 20" or less), distance vision (clear at 20' or more), color vision (ability to identify and distinguish colors), peripheral vision (ability to observe an area that can be seen up or down), depth perception (three-dimensional vision, ability to judge distances and spatial relationships), and ability to adjust focus (ability to adjust the eye to bring an object into sharp focus).
Mental Effort
Thinking analytically, communication (effective verbal and written), handling stress and emotions, concentrating on tasks, remember details, make decisions, adjusting to change, and examining/observing details.
Environmental Factors
Working inside (hot/heat and cold) and outside (cold), working ar! ound/with sharp objects/tools, working in dirty (soil) areas, ! working in dry areas, working in areas with noise, working in areas with hot temperature devices (burners and flame torches), working around wet/slippery floors/surfaces, working with others, and working alone.

DUTIES
- Investigate gas odor/leak calls.
- Perform repairs, adjustments, and relights to natural gas burning appliances.
- Repair or replace gas meters, gas regulators, and meter bars.
- Investigate suspected illegal use of gas.
- Install gas piping, rebuild meters sets, appliance connects, repair leaks. !
- Discontinue or connect gas service to customer's establishment, following written or oral instructions.
- Investigate customer complaints regarding high service cost.
- Perform collections activities: hanging door tags, locking meters, obtaining reads, and discussing payment details with customers
- Install commercial and residential-type gas meters and regulators in buildings.
- Remove meters from vacated or abandoned buildings.
- Use portable computer to receive, create, cancel and close work orders.
- Inspect gas piping and appliance installations for code compliance on customers' premises.
- Other duties as assigned.
Minimum Qualifications
- High School Diploma or GED.
- Three years' service/plumbing experience.
- Thorough knowledge of the Uniform Plumbing and Mechanical Codes.
- Previous gas utility experience in customer service is desirable.
- Must possess a current Alaska driver's license.
- Must possess State of Alaska limited Plumber's License, Municipality of Anchorage Gasfitters card, or qualify to take the test.
- Able to work standby, rotating shifts, and extended hours.
- Must be able to perform emergency response functions.
- Must have good communication skills, be able to maintain good customer service standards, and effectively handle conflict.
- Must reside between Anchor Point/Kachemak City and Homer.
- Ability to pass a background, driving, and drug screen.
- Ability to interpret and apply Uniform Plumbing and Mechanical Codes.
- Ability to learn /understand Company's Standard Operating Procedures (SOPs) as they relate to service department fieldwork.
- Ability to interpret/enforce applicable codes related to setting meters (gas piping, venting, etc).
- M! ust be able to read/interpret as-builts/maps; applicable code books.
- Ability to effectively operate various company supplied leak investigation equipment. (Heath Pak, JW's, Gas Tracs)
- Ability to use portable computer for processing work orders and customer account information.
- Experience with leak and Carbon Monoxide investigations.
- High mechanical aptitude.
- Ability to write legibly and be accurate completing detailed paperwork. * Investigate gas odor/leak calls.
