Clinical Associate II

Location: Anchorage, Alaska

Description: Southcentral Foundation is at present recruited Clinical Associate II right now, this position will be presented in Alaska. Clinical Associates are usually assigned to a specialty work area such as Fetal A! lcohol Spectrum Disorders, Domestic Violence, Substance Abuse, Emotionally Disturbed Children or Adolescents and Severely Mentally Ill adults.

This is a job progression, two job levels, designed to provide progressively more responsible and independent work experiences to employees as part of the overall assessment of their ability and capability. Promotion between job levels is based on performance on prior assignments and the demonstrated ability to successfully handle more progressively responsible assignments.

KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS, AND ABILITIES:
Customer Care & Relationships:
1. Creates, develops, and nurtures culturally appropriate interactions and connections with each other, customer-owners, and the community.

2. Delivery of case management and supportive services that fully supports customer ownership of heath related issues.

  • Establishes therapeutic, enduring relationships with customers and their fami! lies.
  • Manages crisis situations (obtaining clinical s! upport as needed) and seeks resources to aid customers.
  • Active participation in customer case conferences and customer support or counseling groups.
  • Provides and assists in the management and service delivery of a full range of services including individual case management in the appropriate areas for customers served.
  • Assists in coordinating customer appropriate services with other SCF departments and community agencies to establish rapport and cooperation to meet the needs of the customers. As directed by clinician in charge.
  • Assists in providing a program atmosphere that develops positive self-esteem and pride by incorporating Native culture and heritage into daily activities.
3. Understands cultural and traditional values of Alaska Native and/or American Indian cultures as well as other ethnic groups.

4. Develops treatment plans and discharge plans with skills in obtaining, coordination, and facilitating services b! y the Federal, State or local resources.

5. Carries out case management procedures.

6. Understands appropriate health information for customers served, i.e., Fetal Alcohol Spectrum Disorders, working with SED youth, SMI adults, etc.

7. Handles both positive and negative interactions in a constructive manner.

8. Debriefs with customers in an appropriate, constructive manner.

Communications & Teamwork:
1. Shares and receives information, opinions, concerns, and feedback in a supportive manner.

2. Works collaboratively by building bridges, and creating rapport with team members within departments and across the organization.

3. Works effectively with the members of treatment team:
  • Works in coordination with the customer-owner and all treatment members; mentors, probation officers, educational and vocational instructors, clinical team, etc. to develop and support the customer-owners ed! ucational and/or treatment goals.
4. Communicates effectivel! y and in a manner that enhances customer relationships, builds relationships with coworkers and contributes to a supportive work environment:

  • Attends staff meetings, training sessions, and planning and problem solving sessions.
  • Participates in regularly scheduled individual and group supervisory sessions.
  • Assists in program development and other departmental projects.

7. Listens, observes and records a variety of behavioral observations/situations.

8. Communicates the DSM IV including common diagnoses into the treatment team.

Additional Responsibilities for Clinical Associate II: Meets all requirements of Clinical Associate I in addition to the following:

Customer Care & Relationships:
1. Delivers case management and supportive services that fully integrates SCF’s best practices and appropriate model of care for furthering relationships with customers and families.

  • Utilizes customer â€" driven philosophy in working with customer-owners and families by successfully managing customer-owner behaviors using strengths and motivators un! ique to that customer-owner and family in identifying treatment goals.
  • Makes appropriate recommendations on treatment plan modifications to appropriate Clinician or Clinical Team.
  • Promotes the opportunity for full ownership of all health issues by the customer and family through effective and respectful communication as an advocate.
  • Engages multi-disciplinary care team in addition to community agencies as appropriate; OCS, legal guardians, Probation, etc
  • Applies Behavioral & Change Theories such as Motivational interviewing, Medication management and other population appropriate treatment modalities.
2. Coordinates with community resources in a timely manner and to motivate customers to seek needed services.

3. Conducts case staffing/care coordination with the individual and family, etc.

4. Facilitates the therapeutic model and manage decision points.

5. Educates customers on how to recognize side eff! ects and communicate with their providers.

6. Applies evidence! based practices in working with customers with specific diagnosis and interacts with customers accordingly.

QUALIFICATIONS:
SCF programs are established for the purpose of serving a primary population comprised of Alaska Natives who are affiliated with the Cook Inlet Region Inc. (CIRI), and Alaska Natives and American Indians within SCF’s geographical service area. Employees should have a thorough understanding of the cultures and the needs of the CIRI members, and of the general culture and needs of Alaska Natives and American Indians. Such knowledge is critical in order to ensure the achievement of the mission and vision of SCF: working together with the Native community to provide the best services with Native staff who value the family and family wellness as the ! heart of the Native community.

1. Three (3) years of experienc! e or a combination of education and experience with major course work and experience in psychology, counseling, and/or social sciences.

(For example: Two years completed in an accredited college or university with one year supervised experience in substance abuse recovery, mental health services, or case management services; OR 3 years supervised experience in substance abuse recovery, mental health services, or case management services OR demonstrated proficiency as a Mental Health Worker II’ at SCF ).

2. At least twenty-one (21) years of age.

3. Valid Alaska driver’s license.

4. No more than 3 moving traffic violations (as defined by Alaska Statutes Title 28) or 2 at-fault traffic accidents in the previous three (3) years.

5. Must not have had a ‘Driving Under the Influence’ (DUI) or ‘Driving While Intoxicated’ (DWI) violation in the past five (5) years.

Additional Qualifications for Clinical Asso! ciate II: Meets all requirements of Clinical Associate I in addition to the following:

1. Two (2) additional years of professional and supervised social service or related work experience or equivalent combination of education and experience(for example a Bachelors in Psychology and 1 year or professional supervised social service experience).
