Responsible for providing a full range of ultrasound services to customer-owners and for maintaining quality assurance protocols.
KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS, AND ABILITIES:
1. Creates, develops, an! d nurtures culturally appropriate interactions and connections with each other, customer-owners, and the community.
2. Performs ultrasound services, independently performing diagnostic sonography.
- Receives customer-owner; explains method of procedure; prepares and positions customer-owner.
- Evaluates clinical history in correlation with customer-owner chart in order to select proper scanning technique applicable to the body structure so that the presence or absence of disease, lesions, malfunction or anomalies of body tissues and/or organs can be illustrated.
- Produces appropriate scans which best illustrate the lesions or defects in order to produce accurate images for the radiologist to interpret.
- Assists the Radiologists with special scan procedures such as cyst punctures and biopsies.
- Writes a preliminary report of findings, after consultation with a Radiologist.
- Sets and adjusts clinic flow to ! reduce the amount of time customer-owners are kept waiting.
- Attends to the physical and psychological needs of customer-owners; determines when or if it is appropriate to allow family members to observe the scan in progress.
Shares and receives information, opinions, concerns, and feedback in a supportive manner.
Works collaboratively by building bridges, and creating rapport with team members within departments and across the organization.
Works with all other staff in the department as a member of the department and the system.
- Assists in committee and other duties within the department.
- Maintains a clean work environment including adequate supplies and upkeep of unit and equipment. Reports defective or missing equipment and safety hazards. Assists in disaster planning and activities.
- Coordinates and works with other team members to ensure the efficient and effective flow! of customer-owners though the department.
- Works with other team members to ensure a timely flow of customer-owners.
- Practices sterile and aseptic techniques.
- Cleans filters, order specific supplies, and maintains sufficient inventory of gels, sterile trays, and miscellaneous accessories.
Improvement & Innovation:
Makes meaningful improvement to services, program, and processes and/or organizational effectiveness that creates new value for customer-owners and employees.
Works in coordination with the Quality Assurance Team and management to develop and implement a quality assurance program.
- Monitors quality of care delivered.
- Maintains customer-owner exam log and cross reference record of interesting cases, sonogram files, and pertinent manuals, and medical ultrasound journals.
- Provides feedback on quality of care being delivered ! to ensure JCAHO and other regulatory standards are met as they apply to! the department.
- Abides by policies, procedures and bylaws.
Seeks out additional learning opportunities to continue to develop the technical and professional skills needed now and in the future.
Takes responsibility for all work activities and personal actions by following through on commitments.
Knowledge of cross-sectional anatomy and physiology in order to identify and recognize the significance of all structures visualized on the oscilloscope.
Ability to recognize the effects on systems and organs caused by a variety of commonly encountered diseases in order to advise Radiologist/referring physician of results of examination and to provide a preliminary diagnostic evaluation, alerting them of significant scans requiring immediate attention while examination is in progress.
Knowledge of 1974 Privacy Act is required as use of customer-owner record is an integral part of the position. !
Ability to perform job with minimum supervision.
Ability to maintain quality, safety and infection control standards.
QUALIFICATIONS:
SCF programs are established for the purpose of serving a primary population comprised of Alaska Natives who are affiliated with the Cook Inlet Region Inc. (CIRI), and Alaska Natives and American Indians within SCF’s geographical service area. Employees should have a thorough understanding of the cultures and the needs of the CIRI members, and of the general culture and needs of Alaska Natives and American Indians. Such knowledge is critical in order to ensure the achievement of the mission and vision of SCF: working together with the Native community to provide the best services with Native staff who value the family and family wellness as the heart of the Native community.
Registered Ultrasonographer (RDMS).
Basic Life Support (BLS) certification is required. ACLS, NRP, ATLS, ALSO and PALS as requi! red for specialty.
Working Environment:

- Special vision requirements: Close vision (clear vision at 20 inches or less), Distance Vision (clear vision at 20 feet or more), Color vision (ability to identi! fy and distinguish colors), Peripheral Vision (ability to observe an area that can be seen up and down or to the left and right while eyes are fixed on a given point). Depth perception (three-dimensional vision, ability to judge distances and spatial relationships). Ability to adjust focus (ability to adjust the eye to bring an object into sharp focus).
- Additional physical demands: employee must be able to respond when needed by prompt appearance at a required location.
