The Anchorage Attorney General's Office is recruiting for a full time Law Office Assistant I assigned to the Child Protection Section. A law office assistant in this office must be capabl! e of dealing with a high volume of work, be detail oriented, and be flexible as priorities change constantly. Attendance and punctuality are critical components to the success of this position. The law office assistant is responsible for formatting and finalizing various legal documents including pleadings (motions, memorandums, orders, petitions, etc.), briefs, letters, memos, subpoenas, and summonses. The law office assistant is also responsible for formatting and finalizing legislation materials. Other duties include answering phones, opening and closing files, filing, faxing, copying documents, distributing mail, and numerous other tasks as needed. KEY RESPONSIBILITIES INCLUDE (but are not limited to):
Prepare legal documents from typed or handwritten notes, recorded tapes, machine transcription, or computer generated in draft and final form in accordance with deadlines, court rules, and prescribed department formats and requirements. Such documents include legal pl! eadings, briefs, regulation, legislation, and correspondence. ! The incumbent of this position will also be required to edit, proofread, and revise documents for correct date, formatting, caption, syntax, punctuation, grammar, and spelling.
Date stamp, label, notarize, scan, and copy documents.
Arrange for service of legal documents to appropriate parties.
Schedule depositions, pre-hearing conferences, and teleconferences.
Maintain logs, trial calendars, and manage case files deadlines.
Set up a tickler reminder system for time sensitive activities such as pleadings, trials, hearings, motions, oppositions, discovery requests, conferences, and dispositions; remind staff of upcoming deadlines.
Open and close case files.
Provide general administrative support for the section, such as arranging travel accommodations; completing and transmitting travel requests; processing incoming and outgoing mail, and processing invoices for payment.
Filing and all elements of physical file maintenance. WE ARE LOOKING TO HI! RE FOR SOME OR ALL OF THE FOLLOWING DEMONSTRATED STRENGTHS:
Ability to work calmly and productively under frequent deadline pressure and changing priorities in a distracting, fast-paced work environment with frequent interruptions.
Well-developed editing, proofreading, grammar, composition, punctuation, and spelling skills.
Strong computer skills utilizing Microsoft Word, Excel, and Outlook.
Ability to stay focused on numerous details and to maintain a high level of accuracy.
Ability to develop and to maintain cooperative working relationships with a wide variety of people in all levels of the department.
Ability to accept supervision and direct instruction.
Ability to work under a variety of different people and meet all their needs in a timely fashion. Posted salary effective 7/1/13
Minimum Qualifications:
High school diploma or the equivalent;
AND
Six months of experience performing work that required keyboarding sk! ills, proficiency in the use of office information technology, and oral! and written communication skills.

“High School Equivalent†includes a G.E.D., or completion of any basic education course of 480 class hours (16 weeks at 30 hours per week), or six months of work experience performing duties related to the job class, or twelve months of work experience involving some routine tasks related to the job in question or highest grade of school completed plus amount of work experience which totals 12 years.
Most positions require incumbents to be able to obtain a Notary Public Bond and to be able to pass a criminal background check to meet security requirements for using criminal record networks such as APSIN and NCIC/NLETS. Some positions are required to work regular overtime on weekends and/or holidays to provide support to the assigned duty attorney. If this requirement is present, it will be stated in the vaca! ncy announcement and in the Position Description.
