The Calendaring/Jury Division of the Fairbanks Trial Courts seeks a Deputy Clerk II who will perform a variety of clerical and technical functions in order to maintain Di! strict Court hearing dates and times; print accurate daily calendars; make judicial assignments; and prepare pre-trial orders in District and Superior Court.
This incumbent will perform the following duties on a rotational basis:
DISTRICT COURT CALENDARING CASE MANAGER
Manage and schedule all hearings and trials for District Court;
Review draft calendars for accuracy and make any necessary corrections;
Print rough drafts of the calendars daily, attend calendar call twice per week, and print and distribute the final approved calendars daily; JURY CASE MANAGER
Process jury questionnaires; set up jury lists,and check in jurors for trial;
Scan all documentation that is brought directly in;
Create report of jurors present for courtroom and attorneys;
Print juror cards and follow-up contacting jurors who fail to appear and note action on the cards;
Enter daily time and attendance for juror payment and process certificates of ! juror attendance;
Provide customer service to jurors in pe! rson and via phone;
Communicate with judicial staff, in-court clerks, and attorneys regarding jurors; GENERAL CALENDARING AND CRIMINAL CASE MANAGER
Assign judges to felony cases;
Set trial dates, and due dates for motions; calendar call dates for defendants indicted by grand jury;
Reassign judges when a disqualification or recusal is filed;
Prepare pre-trial orders from indictment list;
Docket and file stamp all hearing requests filed in calendaring;
Bar code and refile case files daily as well as loose filings, pick-up files from downstairs bar coding and sort them to the appropriate desk;
Process daily arraignment notes verifying all hearings are resulted and scheduled;
Provide customer service to attorneys, judges, and the general public;
Act as backup jury clerk when needed; OCCASIONAL DUTIES:
Act as local transcript facilitator;
Assist in processing incoming and outgoing mail;
Assist in managing the calend! ars for Fairbanks Judge's assigned to rural court cases;
Post public notices regarding courtroom changes;
Coordinate courtroom and jury room use for non-court proceedings and visiting judges. The list of applicants generated from this recruitment may be used to fill any future vacancies of this job class in the Fairbanks Calendaring/Jury Division occurring within 60 days of the closing date.
Minimum Qualifications:
Graduation from high school or completion of a General Education Development (GED) certificate AND one year of office clerical experience AND the ability to type at least 40 words per minute.
Substitution:
Additional office clerical work experience will substitute for the high school diploma or GED certificate on a month-for-month basis.
Completion of 36 semester credit hours or 48 quarter credit hours of coursework from an accredited college will substitute for the year of required office clerical experience. Completion of an appropriate vocational training course of study suc! h as legal secretary, paralegal, or office skills will substitute for the required office clerical experience on a month-for-month basis.
