Job Posting Summary
A background investigation is required for this position. Background must be clean of convictions for APSIN clearance. It is recommended all applicant contact the UAF Police Department Dispatch Center and arrange for a familiarity visit after applying for the position prior to interviews. Provide Emergency Communication Services. Responsible for initializing appropriate response to emergency situations for campus as well as Fairbanks community. Information is obtained via Enhanced 911 system, telephone, interpersonal and/or radio system. Responsible for determining appropriate response level and department(s), to include six fire, three ambulance and one police department. Works closely with all other departments in North Star and Denali Borough and assure mutual aid agreements are fulfilled with most efficient and effective resolution of emergency situation to assure limited loss of life and/or property. Maintain individual r! ecords for each incident for each department. Record fire, ambulance and police activities in both hard copy and digital form. Provide initial input of all incidents into computer aided dispatch system. Assist processing of documents to prepare for outside agencies and district attorneys. Provide copies of legal documents and recordings upon request of individuals either involved, defending or insuring involved parties.
Knowledge, skills and abilities required for this position.
Must be able to successfully work in a fast pace and constantly changing environment. This includes, but is not limited to, answering multi-line emergency and non-emergency phone lines, monitoring multi-channel radio frequencies, assisting routine and emergency callers. Ability to stay focused, calm and professional during stressful situations. Provide excellent verbal customer skills at all times to all that request assistance whether police, fire or citizens of the community. Abi! lity to maintain strict confidentiality of information acquired during ! course of employment. Have the ability to use office equipment, computers and able to understand and learn various types of computer software programs and record management systems. Must be able to type 40 wpm with no more than 1 error.
Typical education or training required for this position (including licenses).
High school graduation. CPR, Emergency Medical Dispatcher certification and Alaska Public Safety Information Network (APSIN) certification and security clearance must be acquired by end of training period. Upon successful completion of training and with approval of supervisor and CTOs, dispatcher will be eligible for movement to Emergency Dispatcher 2 after probationary period and training is completed and one satisfactory or higher evaluation after performing alone on shift for at least 60 days.

Dispatcher must be able to work shifts assigned without leaving the center. Shifts are 10-12 hours in duration. Shifts during training include days, evenings, nights and weekends. (24/7). All shifts are covered during training/probationary period. Trainees are not allowed to take leave during the training program. Final shift assigned is based on department needs. A complete background investigation will be performed on final candidate.

Records
Duty:
Support Safety Services by serving as primary information and inquiry point, which includes greeting,
assisting, providing information, and directing students, staff, faculty, customers and visitors. Receive,
respond and route requests, concerns, comments and complaints. Service requests require extraction of
valid and useful information to assess nature, scope and urgency of problem; apply sound judgment and
quick response. Direct appropriate personnel to emergency situations. Communicate information efficiently
and effectively via UHF radio, telephone, email and fax. Discre! tionary screening, routing and interpretation of numerous telephone cal! ls. Assist Police and Fire Departments with requests for information regarding public safety incidents, security and injury prevention. Maintain strict confidentiality of all records and assure
discretion of student employees.
Processing site for communication contacts via telephone, fax, email and over-the-counter verbal or
handwritten, which is critical and essential for the daily function of all UAF facilities. Interpret and evaluate
scope of request and provide planning assistance to requester as needed. Determine appropriate department
response and assignment in a vast variety of grade and department options. Translate laymen description
into trade terminology to provide clear and concise work description for 75 safety and security staff and
student personnel. Enter approximately 45,000 incident logs and service requests annually into a computer
aided dispatch system. Proficiency and accuracy of coding is crucial for the data extrac! tion used by UAF
management for statistics and requests for response utilized to manage budgets for Communications, Police
and Fire. Finalize completed requests for service by evaluating consistency of written and computer records
for validity and accuracy. Records are legal documents in both criminal and civil processes and discrepancies
are reported to the Supervisor of Emergency Communications. Edit all records for appropriate spelling,
grammar and political correctness to ensure highest possibility of protection of University's liability in incident
response. Monitor Zetron radio and paging system. Maintain and update
Master Employee Contact (telephone) database.
Maintain individual records for each incident for each department. Record fire, ambulance and police
activities in both hard copy and digital form. Provide initial input of all incidents into police records
management system for use by UAF Dean of Student services as! well as UAF Police. Extract data and
statistics from data systems ! for accountability and financial uses.
Provide for police and after hours for Facilities Services. Assist processing of documents to prepare for
outside agencies and district attorneys. Provide copies of legal documents and recordings upon request of
individuals either involved, defending or insuring involved parties.
Provide Emergency Communication Services. Responsible for initializing appropriate response to emergency

with all pertinent information and monitoring location and welfare at all times.
