The Alaska Court System (ACS) is recruiting for a Deputy Clerk III within t! he Dillingham Trial Courts. The incumbent will act as an in-court clerk for the Magistrate and as a back-up for a Superior Court Judge as well as processing criminal and civil paperwork, performing jury clerk duties, and assisting customers with court-related questions.
If you are the selected applicant, regular job duties will include:
Prepare courtroom, operate and monitor electronic recording equipment; troubleshoot problems with recording system and computers; keep log notes of all court proceedings, prepare forms for judicial officer's signature;
Swear in witnesses and jurors; secure and maintain exhibits until conclusion of case; serve as bailiff during trial as needed;
Set up and maintain criminal and civil files; enter initial and updated information into the computer on Superior and District Court cases; coordinate the scheduling of hearings and trial dates;
Prepare summons, bench warrants, arrest warrants, and judgments! for judge or magistrate's signature; maintain records of fine! s/restitution due and payments of same;
Respond to a large variety of questions, either on the phone or in person from the public, other court staff, and other agencies, without giving legal advice.

Minimum Qualifications:
Graduation from high school or completion of a General Education Development (GED) certificate AND one year of office clerical experience AND the ability to type at least 40 words per minute.
Substitution:
Additional office clerical work experience will substitute for the high school diploma or GED certificate on a month-for-month basis.
Completion of 36 semester credit hours or 48 quarter credit hours of coursework from an accredited college will substitute for the year of required office clerical experience.
Completion of an appropriate vocational training course o! f study such as legal secretary, paralegal, or office skills will subst! itute for the required office clerical experience on a month-for-month basis.
