The Alaska Court System (ACS) is recruiting for a Deputy Clerk III to serve as an In-Court Clerk for Superior and District Court proceedings. This position will serve as the weekend in-court clerk for all of Southeast Alaska and also as an in-court clerk, criminal clerk, and civil clerk for the Juneau Trial Courts. In-court clerks produce quality electronic recordings and written log note indexes of a wide variety of court proceedings, assist judicial officers in the courtroom, and prepare and distribute documents related to the proceedings.
THIS POSITION WILL WORK A NON-STANDARD WEEK:
8:00 a.m. to 4:30 p.m., Monday, Tuesday, and Friday
8:00 a.m. to 3:30 p.m. Saturday and Sunday
Excellent customer service skills are necessary in the performance of the following:
Prepare the courtroom and recording equipment for daily hearings; receive and make telephone calls for interested parties to attend hearings; operate and monitor electronic recording equipment and ensure that accurate, clear, and audible recordings are made;
Announce the opening and closing of court proceedings; administer oaths to witnesses and interpreters; coordinate the flow of multiple cases, parties, and attorneys during court sessions; locate and play back portions of the record;
Mark and maintain control and security of exhibit lists during and at conclusion of hearings; prepare and maintain forms for witness lists; prepare accurate and complete tag reports of court proceedings;
Prepare, distribute, and process court paperwork resulting from District and Superior Court proceedings; complete judgments for signature and enter all required information into the case management system;
Open, set up, and close case files;
Review case-related filings to ensure they conform with court rules; identify expedited matters; schedule cases daily and other filings that need immediate review by a judicial officer;
Schedule hearings; prepare cases for hearings; distribute signed orders, decisions, and related paperwork;
Update the case management system with pre- and post-judgment information;
Provide case-related information to attorneys and other interested persons or agencies;
Assist other in-court clerks and perform other duties as assigned in the Clerk's office; serve as a back-up bailiff.

Minimum Qualifications:
Graduation from high school or completion of a General Education Development (GED) certificate AND one year of office clerical experience AND the ability to type at least 40 words per minute.
Substitution:
Additional office clerical work experience will substitute for the high school diploma or GED certificate on a month-for-month basis.
Completion of 36 semester credit hours or 48 quarter credit hours of coursework from an accredited college will substitute for the year of required office clerical experience.
Completion of an appropriate vocational training course of study such as legal secretary, paralegal, or office skills will substitute for the required office clerical experience on a month-for-month basis.
