The Alaska Court System (ACS) is recruiting for a Deputy Clerk II in support of the Kodiak Trial Courts. This position will process all aspects of the paperwork and files regarding criminal cases. Regular duties will include:
Maintain all criminal files; check the daily jail roster to make sure all complaints are received by the assigned court date, prepare the case file, verify that the arrest tracking number is placed on all incoming complaints, and prepare and enter all court documents into the computer;
Perform scheduling on a daily basis and enter necessary changes; prepare documents for the judge or magistrate's signature relating to the case file; follow up on files after each hearing by preparing calendar orders, pretrial orders, assignment of judge, bench warrants, orders to show cause, orders for presentence reports, etc.;
Route motions filed with the court to the law clerks; route all urgent filings directly to the appropriate judicial officer and oversee the proper distribution to pertinent parties;
Pull all files for the next day's calendar; verify entries with the file and check for any discrepancies; make arrangements for interpreters to be present if necessary and maintain a listing of interpreters for the court's use;
Close all files after disposition, including preparation of judgments, distribution to parties, computer entries, preparation of fine, surcharge and restitution; review file for outstanding bail or restitution monies and prepare a request for disbursement for the bookkeeper;
Maintain a tickler system for Suspended Imposition of Sentence cases, fines, court sanctions, and restitution; contact appropriate agency if necessary and route files to judicial officer for further action;
Perform quarterly audit of open files to verify court dates are correct and properly entered; audit bench warrant files for pre-judgment warrants over two years old and send notice to District Attorney for further action;
Respond to telephone, written, and front counter inquiries regarding criminal matters, including research, requests to change court dates, extensions for fine, jail, alcohol treatment, anger management, or community work service;
Act as backup front counter clerk; other duties as assigned.

Minimum Qualifications:
Graduation from high school or completion of a General Education Development (GED) certificate AND one year of office clerical experience AND the ability to type at least 40 words per minute.
Substitution:
Additional office clerical work experience will substitute for the high school diploma or GED certificate on a month-for-month basis.
Completion of 36 semester credit hours or 48 quarter credit hours of coursework from an accredited college will substitute for the year of required office clerical experience.
Completion of an appropriate vocational training course of study such as legal secretary, paralegal, or office skills will substitute for the required office clerical experience on a month-for-month basis.
