The Alaska Court System (ACS) is recruiting for a permanent part-time Deputy Clerk to support the Sitka Trial Courts. This part-time position is scheduled to work 20 hours per week, Monday - Friday, 10:00am to 2:00pm.
The successful applicant will manage all aspects of the jury system for the court, provide counter/phone coverage, and process minor offenses. Regular duties will include:
Jury Management
Create new terms for grand jury and petit jury prior to requesting grand jury and monthly petit jury lists and summons from Anchorage;
Monitor all returned questionnaires, process excusals/deferrals;
Input information accurately and timely into JuryView system;
Answer questions dealing with jury service received by mail, telephone, or in person;
Complete and submit all monthly jury reports;
Update recorded jury phone messages; prepare jury lists and distribute to attorneys and judges;
Case Management, Docket Management and Document Support
Receive minor offense citations and enter into CourtView; assist criminal clerk with monthly default transfers; distribute closed citations to appropriate agencies;
Accept new pleadings for all case types; verify for completeness; collect established fees; assign case numbers and set up case files;
Accept supplemental pleadings; review for conformity with court rules, statutes, and district policies;
Issue summons and subpoenas; enter data into CourtView to open, close, monitor and manage cases;
Accept fines, restitution payments, garnishment, and execution monies, bail and other revenue and trust; issue computerized receipts;
Greet customers, fulfill inquiries, provide court forms and direct customers to additional resources; other duties as assigned.

Minimum Qualifications:
Graduation from high school or completion of a General Education Development (GED) certificate AND one year of office clerical experience AND the ability to type at least 40 words per minute.
Substitution:
Additional office clerical work experience will substitute for the high school diploma or GED certificate on a month-for-month basis.
Completion of 36 semester credit hours or 48 quarter credit hours of coursework from an accredited college will substitute for the year of required office clerical experience.
Completion of an appropriate vocational training course of study such as legal secretary, paralegal, or office skills will substitute for the required office clerical experience on a month-for-month basis.
